  1. 1. Nonlinear Characterization of Wideband Microwave Devices and Dispersive Effects in GaN HEMTs

    Author : Sebastian Gustafsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; large-signal; dispersive effects; electron trapping; thermal coupling; HEMT; GaN; microwave; wideband;

    Abstract : Measurements play a key role in the development of microwave hardware as they allow engineers to test and verify the RF performance on a system, circuit, and component level. Since modern cellular standards employ complex modulation formats with wider signal bandwidths to cope with the growing demand of higher datarates, nonlinear characterization using wideband stimuli is becoming increasingly important. 2. 2. Relaxation and Resonance in Brownian Motion-Coupled Resonators

    Author : Christin Rhen; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nonequilibrium dynamics; nonlinear dynamics; resonance; nanomechanics; relaxation; superconducting circuits.; resonator; dispersive coupling; noise; Brownian motion;

    Abstract : In physics, there exists a number of paradigm systems – exactly solvable models that can represent a wide variety of physical realizations. My research is concerned with two of these paradigm systems: the harmonic oscillator and Brownian motion. READ MORE

  3. 3. The growth of waves by wind as a problem in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics

    Author : Anthony Bonfils; John Wettlaufer; Kristian Gustafsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; out-of-equilibrium system; fluctuation spectrum; oscillatory force; classical Casimir effect; non-linear waves; wave turbulence; wind-wave coupling.; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : In 1948, Casimir predicted a net attractive force between two perfectly conducting parallel plates due to electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations. By analogy, the interaction of two ships on a wavy sea has been named Maritime Casimir effect. This is an example of force generation in non-equilibrium systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Alfvén Waves and Energy Transformation in Space Plasmas

    Author : Yuri Khotyaintsev; Kalevi Mursula; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; Alfvén waves; particle acceleration; ionosphere; magnetopause; magnetic reconnection; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik; Space Physics; rymdfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on the role of Alfvén waves in the energy transformation and transport in the magnetosphere. Different aspects of Alfvén wave generation, propagation and dissipation are considered. The study involves analysis of experimental data from the Freja, Polar and Cluster spacecraft, as well as theoretical development. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Josephson parametric oscillator - From microscopic studies to single-shot qubit readout

    Author : Philip Krantz; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; resonators; Superconducting circuits; parametric oscillators; quantum bit; quantum information; SQUID; pumpistor; Josephson junction; circuit quantum electrodynamics;

    Abstract : Circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) is a prominent platform for quantum information processing, in which microwave photons are confined into resonant cavities coupled to superconducting quantum bits (qubits). The large effective dipole moment of the qubit, in combination with the high energy density of the quasi 1-D resonator allow these systems to enter the so-called strong coupling regime. READ MORE
