  1. 1. Microfluidic Cell and Particle Sorting using Deterministic Lateral Displacement

    Author : Stefan Holm; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfluidics; Separation science; Deterministic Lateral Displacement; Cell analysis; Deterministic lateral displacement; Microfluidics; Particle sorting; Droplet microfluidics; trypanosomiasis; red blood cell; Cell sorting; Fysicumarkivet A:2018:Holm;

    Abstract : Microfluidics is a field which has the potential to revolutionize medical diagnostics. The ability to sort and analyse cells by the use of portable handheld devices has the potential to enable sensitive devices for point-of-care diagnostics. READ MORE

  2. 2. Re-interventions after endovascular aortic repair: clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Håkan Roos; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; EVAR; stent graft; blood flow; displacement forces; aortic aneurysm; angulation; reoperation;

    Abstract : Background: Endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) has lower morbidity and mortality than open surgery. Late complications and re-interventions are more common, however, and the timing of different re-interventions and their respective underlying causes are not fully understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. Distribution of Ventilation Air and Heat by Buoyancy Forces inside Buildings : An Experimental Study

    Author : Claes Blomqvist; Mats Sandberg; Per Heiselberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building ventilation; thermal forces; buoyancy; gravity currents; large openings; heating; air quality; forced convection; free convection; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The main task of the ventilation system in a building is to maintain the air quality and (together with the heating or cooling system) the thermal climate at an acceptable level within the building. This means that a sufficient amount of ventilation air at the appropriate temperature and quality must be supplied to satisfy thermal comfort and air quality demands and that this air is distributed to the parts of the building where people reside. 4. 4. Towards Model-Based Condition Monitoring of Railway Switches and Crossings

    Author : Marko Milosevic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sleeper void; Switches crossings; condition indicators; embedded sleeper accelerometer; multi-body simulations; dynamic vehicle–track interaction; MBS; S C; wheel–rail contact forces; condition monitoring; crossing rail geometry; displacement reconstruction.; model calibration;

    Abstract : Railway switches and crossings (S&C, turnouts) connect different track sections and create a railway network by allowing for trains to change between tracks. This functionality comes at a cost as the load-inducing rail discontinuities in the switch and crossing panels cause much higher degradation rates for S&C compared to regular plain line track. 5. 5. To leak or not to leak? : Land‐Use Displacement and Carbon Leakage from Forest Conservation

    Author : Sabine Henders; Madelene Ostwald; Martin Persson; Julie Wilk; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; land‐use change and deforestation; accounting methods; consumer and producer responsibility; REDD ; Klimatförändring; markanvändning och avskogning; redovisningsmetoder; konsument‐ och producentansvaret; REDD ;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the question how emissions from land‐use displacement can be assessed and accounted for, using the example of carbon‐leakage accounting in the planned UNFCCC mechanism on ‘Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation’ (REDD). REDD serves here as example of an international forest conservation policy that might be effective locally but could lead to displacement of deforestation to other countries. READ MORE
