  1. 1. On Postbuckling Analysis of Thin-walled Structures Numerical and Statistical Approaches

    Author : Mats Ander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; postbuckling; hierarchical elements; imperfection sensitivity; displacement gradients; total Lagrange formulation; geometrically non-linear structures;

    Abstract : Thin-walled structural elements, such as plates, shells and beams are important load carrying components in civil-, mechanical-, automotive- aeronautical- and marine engineering structures. In order to reduce the weight thin-walled structures are given an optimum design making them sensitive to unforeseen deviations in geometry, boundary conditions, material properties and applied loads. 2. 2. Late Weichselian and early Holocene shore displacement in the central Baltic, based on stratigraphical and morphological records from eastern Småland and Gotland, Sweden

    Author : Nils-Olof Svensson; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pollen; Paleontologi; Shore displacement; Land uplift; Paleobotanic;

    Abstract : The glacial unloading and resulting isostatic land uplift have together with hydro-isostasy, eustatic rise of sea-level and geoidal changes, ruled the shore displacement of Fennoscandia. Within the Baltic basin, periods of damming and shifts of outlet further complicated the shore displacement during the period studied, c. 12,200-8400 BP. READ MORE

  3. 3. Simulations of turbulent boundary layers with suction and pressure gradients

    Author : Alexandra Bobke; Philipp Schlatter; Ramis Örlü; Ayse Gul Gungor; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary layers; near-wall turbulence; history effects; asymptotic suction boundary layers; large-eddy simulation;

    Abstract : The focus of the present licentiate thesis is on the effect of suction and pressure gradients on turbulent boundary-layer flows, which are investigated separately through performing numerical simulations.The first part aims at assessing history and development effects on adverse pressure-gradient (APG) turbulent boundary layers (TBL). 4. 4. Modelling of Mass and Heat Transport in Paper - Evaluation of Mechanisms and Shrinkage

    Author : Erik Baggerud; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solid-based coordinates; paper; porous medium; convection; diffusion; volume fractions; mercury displacement; shrinkage; simulations; convective; hot surface; Modelling; drying; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik;

    Abstract : In this work a one-dimensional model for the mass and heat transport in the thickness direction of paper has been developed. Solid-based coordinates were applied to simplify incorporation of shrinkage. Liquid diffusion, gas convection and vapour and air diffusion were incorporated as mass transport mechansims. READ MORE

  5. 5. NMR Studies of Gel-Emulsions; Diffusometry and Applications of Novel Field Gradient Techniques

    Author : Carin Malmborg; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; modulated gradients; imaging; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; NMR; emulsion; diffusion;

    Abstract : The aim of these studies has been to investigate what information that can be obtained on gel-emulsions with nuclear magnetic resonance, NMR, as the investigating tool. The gel-emulsions are important in many technical applications such as in food products, in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations, and in emulsion explosives, just to name a few applications.
