  1. 11. Cytokine induced airway hyperreactivity characterized in an in-vitro model of asthma

    Author : Yaping Zhang; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; MAPK; TNF-alpha; 5-HT; Respiratory system; Andningsorganen; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; interleukin-1beta; hyperresponsiveness; endothelin-1; airway; bradykinin; toxikologi; farmaci;

    Abstract : Asthma is a chronic disorder of the lower airways, characterized by inflammation and hyperreactivity. Pro-inflammatory cytokines like tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) are known to play important roles in the pathogenesis, but our knowledge how these cytokines contribute to the development of airway hyperreactivity is limited. 2. 12. Effects of the host defense peptide LL-37 on human cells : Immunomodulation and cytotoxicity

    Author : Sara Bodahl; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LL-37; Host defense peptides; Cathelicidin; Inflammation; Cytotoxicity; TLR3; Poly I:C;

    Abstract : The human host defense peptide LL-37 has an essential role in the first line of defense against invading pathogens. This cathelicidin is mainly produced by immune cells and epithelial cells aligning the mucosal areas and is normally upregulated upon infection and inflammation. READ MORE

  3. 13. Female hairdressers - Respiratory symptoms, mechanisms, and health-related quality of life and their views on the work environment

    Author : Kerstin Diab; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Female hairdressers; Respiratory symptoms; Health-Related Quality of Life; Work environment;

    Abstract : Little is known of respiratory symptoms in female hairdressers, and of the impact on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), nor of knowledge of their own views on preventive work. The aim of this thesis was to examine the occurrence of asthma, symptoms and mechanism of bleaching-associated nasal symptoms, the effects on HRQoL and how young hairdressers reason about the work environment. 4. 14. Targeting viral induced TSLP - an airway treatment opportunity

    Author : Angelica Brandelius; Respiratorisk immunofarmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Respiratory viral infections cause exacerbations of asthma and COPD that cannot be effectively treated today. Thymic Stromal Lymphopoietin (TSLP) is an upstream epithelial cytokine linking the innate and adaptive immune system. Viral stimuli induce epithelial overexpression of TSLP in asthma and COPD. 5. 15. New aspects of tissue mast cells in inflammatory airway diseases

    Author : Cecilia Andersson; Luftvägsinflammation; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Mast cell are found throughout the body, but are especially prominent in tissues that have direct contact with the external milieu such as the skin, gastrointestinal tract and lungs. Mast cells are commonly recognized for their detrimental role in allergic reactions and can, upon activation through the high-affinity receptor for IgE (FcεRI), rapidly produce and secrete many of the mediators responsible for the typical symptoms in urticaria, asthma and rhinitis.
