2. Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems for neural interfaces - a novel approach for improved biocompatibility
Abstract : The overall purpose of this thesis was to reduce brain tissue responses around implanted microelectrodes using a pharmacological strategy. One of the main aims was to develop and evaluate drug delivery systems that allow local administration of anti-inflammatory pharmaceutics. READ MORE

3. Antimicrobial peptide therapy for tuberculosis infections
Abstract : Tuberculosis is a communicable disease that persists as a second leading cause for death, by an infectious agent. Several reasons contribute to this issue to this, of which an upsurge in antibiotic resistance is of top concern. Resistance patterns in the form of mono or multidrug resistance was reported to most clinical therapies at our disposal. READ MORE

4. Interactions of Mucins with Biopolymers and Drug Delivery Particles
Abstract : The main components in the mucous gels apart from water are mucins, which are proteins with high molecular weights and an abundance of negatively charged oligosaccharide side chains. The aim of the investigations was to characterize interactions between mucins and other proteins that are present in the mucous gel, and also between mucins and components used in pharmaceutical formulations. 5. Above and Below Graphene: Nanoparticle Chemistry and Interface Reactions
Abstract : The work presented in this dissertation addresses two main topics: (i) graphene supported nanoparticles and their stability upon gas adsorption, and (ii) intercalation of different molecules under graphene and their reactions under graphene. From an interplay of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, low energy electron diffraction, and density functional theory an atomic scale understanding of both the nanoparticles and the intercalated structures is obtained.
