  1. 1. The Role of Emotion in the Interpretation of Sounds

    Author : Penny Bergman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; auditory-induced emotions; Interpretation; psychoacoustics; Mediation analysis; Categorization; Emotion responses;

    Abstract : Historically there has been a conceptual distinction between reason and passion, i.e. emotions and higher levels of cognitive processing has been viewed apart from each other and studied separately. Recent research suggest a more dynamic interaction where the emotional responses may affect several aspects of higher level cognitive functioning. READ MORE

  2. 2. Monitoring biodiversity in cultural landscapes: development of remote sensing- and GIS-based methods

    Author : Jonas Dalmayne; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : Remote sensing; statistical modeling; spatial scales; partial least squares; support vector machines; grazed grasslands; LULC; HySpex; Worldview-2; Landsat; heterogeneity; landscape complexity; plant species diversity;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I explore the relationships between structural and compositional landscape properties, and species diversity, using remotely sensed data on a variety of spatial scales. The thesis shows that increased landscape heterogeneity, measured using environmental and spectral variables that were used both separately and combined, is generally positively related to plant species richness. 3. 3. Impact of climate warming on Arctic plant diversity: phylogenetic diversity unravels opposing shrub responses in a warming tundra

    Author : Ruud Scharn; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; Oroarctic; Tundra; long-term warming; soil moisture; vegetation change; shrubification; biodiversity; phylogenetic diversity; plant community structure;

    Abstract : The Arctic biome is at significant risk, with recent observations suggesting that climate change is warming the Arctic nearly four times faster than the global average. Last decade, evidence from experimental warming studies and observations of ambient warming over time shows how increasing air temperature in the Arctic has led to changes to arctic vegetation, and encroachment of trees and shrubs into the tundra. 4. 4. Statistically Guided Visualization and Exploratory Analysis of Omics Data

    Author : Charlotte Soneson; Brain Repair and Imaging in Neural Systems (BRAINS); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bioinformatics; Exploratory analysis; Multidimensional Scaling; Omics data; Principal component analysis; Visualization;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with methods for extracting robust and relevant information from high-dimensional data sets, and statistically guided visualization methods for representing the data in an informative and easily accessible way. High-dimensional data sets are becoming increasingly prevalent in many different scientific disciplines. READ MORE

  5. 5. The people of Knossos : Prosopographical studies in the Knossos Linear B archives

    Author : Hedvig Landenius-Enegren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Archaeology; Prosopography; Knossos; Linear B tablets; Mycenaean Crete; Aegean Bronze Age epigraphy; Arkeologi; Archaeology subjects; Arkeologiämnen; arkeologi; Archaeology;

    Abstract : The thesis comprises a study of the personal names and designations recorded on the Knossos Linear B tablets. The tablets are largely fragmentary and are written in a syllabic script. When deciphered the language proved to be an early form of Greek. The tablets date to the Mycenaean period of the Palace of Knossos. READ MORE
