1. Computational studies of nickel catalysed reactions relevant for hydrocarbon gasification
Abstract : Sustainable energy sources are of great importance, and will become even more important in the future. Gasification of biomass is an important process for utilization of biomass, as a renewable energy carrier, to produce fuels and chemicals. READ MORE

2. Molecular Recognition in Antibody Engineering. Studies on recombinant and phage displayed antibodies
Abstract : In vitro generation of antibody fragments of desired specificity and affinity plays an important role since it permits the generation of reagents which may be valuable for diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Furthermore, the kinetic parameters for an antibody-antigen interaction, rather than the affinity, has shown to correlate with biological functions like virus neutralization. READ MORE

3. Chromatographic Studies of Solute Interactions with Immobilized Red Blood Cells and Biomembranes
Abstract : Specific and non-specific interactions of solutes with immobilized biomembranes were studied using chromatographic methods. Liposomes, proteoliposomes and red blood cell (RBC) membrane vesicles were immobilized by a freeze-thawing procedure, whereas whole RBCs were adsorbed in the gel beds using electrostatic interaction, binding to wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) or the streptavidin-biotin interaction. 4. Affinity-, Partition- and Permeability Properties of the Human Red Blood Cell Membrane and Biomembrane Models, with Emphasis on the GLUT1 Glucose Transporter
Abstract : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods. 5. Protein mass spectrometry in the drug discovery process
Abstract : Most targets for drug discovery are proteins. Drug discovery includes target identification and validation, structural biology, lead generation, lead optimisation, pre-clinical development and clinical trials. The overall aim of this thesis is to apply protein mass spectrometry (MS) in the early drug discovery process. READ MORE
