  1. 1. Risky distances : Peripheralisation and normalisation in the case of a maternity ward closure in Sweden

    Author : Emelie Larsson; Katarina Giritli Nygren; Anna Olofsson; Sirpa Wrede; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis explores risk, peripheralisation and normalisation in the case of the maternity ward closure at Sollefteå Hospital, located inland in the Swedish region of Västernorrland. When the ward closed in 2017, it drew significant media attention and political discussions on the continuous cuts to Swedish maternity care and the growing economic gap between urban and rural areas – discussions that actualised questions of power and risk. 2. 2. On high-dimensional Mahalanobis distances

    Author : Dai Deliang; Thomas Holgersson; Schmid Wolfgang; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; business cycle; employment; immigrant; import competition; informality; life satisfaction; local labour market; self-employment; unemployment rate;

    Abstract : The thesis consists of three empirical essays on the topics of self-employment, happiness and international trade.Essay 1 studies how immigrant self-employment entry is affected by the local business cycle in Sweden. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electromagnetic Field Induced Out-of-Equilibrium Structural Dynamics in Protein Crystals: From Picoseconds to Milliseconds

    Author : Viktor Ahlberg Gagnér; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Terahertz radiation; low frequency vibrations; B-factors; ADP tensor; bovine trypsin; FemtoMAX; resampling; femtosecond structural dynamics; millisecond structural dynamics; LCLS; displacements; distances; photosynthetic reaction center;

    Abstract : Light-induced interactions in biomolecules are strongly varying over different model systems. Most amino acids and proteins absorb ultraviolet light, but only a few with specialised chromophores or fluorophores, are able to absorb light in the visible spectrum. READ MORE

  4. 4. Active magnetoplasmonics for nanoscale distances sensing

    Author : Irina Zubritskaya; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cobalt; magnetoplasmonics; plasmon ruler; magneto-optical Kerr effect MOKE ; nickel; dimer; localized surface plasmon resonance;

    Abstract : Magnetoplasmonics is an emerging field within nano-photonics that operates with the combination of propagating or localized surface plasmons and magnetism. Active and adaptive magnetoplasmonic components that are capable of controlling light on the nanoscale with external weak magnetic fields are envisioned to push the development of integrated photonic circuits, high-density data storage, or the advanced schemes for bio- and chemo-sensing. 5. 5. Mass Loss of Evolved Stars : Improving Mass-Loss Rates and Distances

    Author : Miora Andriantsaralaza; Paul Barklem; Elvire De Beck; Susanne Höfner; Jacco van Loon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; AGB stars; Mass loss; Distance; Circumstellar matter; Radio interferometry; Stellar evolution; Fysik med inriktning mot astrofysik; Physics with specialization in Astrophysics;

    Abstract : In the final stages of their lives, low to intermediate-mass stars enter the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) phase, where they experience significant mass loss through dusty stellar winds. This mass loss is pivotal, not only for the chemical enrichment of the interstellar medium, setting the stage for new stars and planets to form, but also in dictating the evolution and the ultimate fate of the stars themselves.
