  1. 1. Collaborative Logistics Management. The Role of Third-Party Service Providers and the Enabling Information Systems Architecture

    Author : Gunnar Stefansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; collaborative logistics management; transportation; distribution; information technology; third-party service providers; information systems; interface; collaboration;

    Abstract : The trend towards centralization of distribution structures, to one or a few warehouses or distribution centers serving large geographical areas, has opened up opportunities for logistics outsourcing. The number of parties involved in such logistics setups has increased during the last decades and in setups with outsourced logistics services at least one third-party service provider is introduced and in many distribution setups two or more are involved. 2. 2. Methods and Algorithms for Data-Intensive Computing : Streams, Graphs, and Geo-Distribution

    Author : Hooman Peiro Sajjad; Vladimir Vlassov; Keijo Heljanko; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stream processing; geo-distributed infrastructure; edge computing; streaming graph; dynamic graph; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Abstract : Struggling with the volume and velocity of Big Data has attracted lots of interest towards stream processing paradigm, a paradigm in the area of data-intensive computing that provides methods and solutions to process data in motion. Today's Big Data includes geo-distributed data sources. READ MORE

  3. 3. Growth and decline in rural Sweden : geographical distribution of employment and population 1960–2010

    Author : Martin Hedlund; Linda Lundmark; Emma Lundholm; Olof Stjernström; Kjell Overvåg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; rural restructuring; rural heterogeneity; manufacturing decline; agricultural decline; urbanization; rural typology; life-course perspective; cluster analysis; Sweden; Social and Economic Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the combination of changes in the population and employment into sectors in rural Sweden for the period 1960-2010. The aim is to describe and analyze the demographic changes together with the labour market changes, and to account for the spatial outcome of these changes by considering the heterogeneity of rural areas. 4. 4. Contributions to Performance Modeling and Management of Data Centers

    Author : Rerngvit Yanggratoke; Rolf Stadler; Filip De Turck; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cloud computing; distributed management; resource allocation; gossip protocols; management objectives; distributed object store; object allocation policy;

    Abstract : Over the last decade, Internet-based services, such as electronic-mail, music-on-demand, and social-network services, have changed the ways we communicate and access information. Usually, the key functionality of such a service is in backend components, which are located in a data center, a facility for hosting computing systems and related equipment. READ MORE

  5. 5. Properties of Volume Bragg Gratings and Nonlinear Crystals for Laser Engineering

    Author : Staffan Tjörnhammar; Fredrik Laurell; Valdas Pasiskevicius; Takunori Taira; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; volume Bragg grating; VBG; thermal effects; nonlinear optics; KTiOPO4; quasi-phase matching; photochromic damage; grey-tracking; color centers; blue-light induced infrared absorption; BLIIRA; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on two topics: thermal limitations of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) employed as laser-cavity mirrors and formation of color centers in KTiOPO4 and its isomorphs.To explore the mechanisms of the thermal limitations of VBGs in high power lasers, I designed and constructed a diode-pumped, solid‑state laser with a VBG as cavity mirror that had a significantly higher absorption than what is typical.
