  1. 1. Ion Beam Analysis of First Wall Materials Exposed to Plasma in Fusion Devices

    Author : Per Petersson; Göran Possnert; Anders Hallén; Marek Rubel; Eduardo C. Alves; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ion beam analysis; Microbeam; Plasma wall interaction; Deuterium; Beryllium; Carbon fibre composites; Divertor; Nuclear reaction analysis; Helium-3; Plasma physics with fusion; Plasmafysik med fusion; Ion Physics; Jonfysik;

    Abstract : One major step needed for fusion to become a reliable energy source is the development of materials for the extreme conditions (high temperature, radioactivity and erosion) caused by hot plasmas. The main goal of the present study is to use and optimise ion beam methods (lateral resolution and sensitivity) to characterise the distribution of hydrogen isotopes that act as fuel. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental studies of materials migration in magnetic confinement fusion devices : Novel methods for measurement of macro particle migration, transport of atomic impurities and characterization of exposed surfaces

    Author : Igor Bykov; Henric Bergsåker; Matej Mayer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; tokamak; RFP; divertor; limiter; SOL; transport; migration; surface analysis; IBA; ion micro beam; beryllium; tritium; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : During several decades of research and development in the field of Magnetically Confined Fusion (MCF) the preferred selection of materials for Plasma Facing Components (PFC) has changed repeatedly. Without doubt, endurance of the first wall will decide research availability and lifespan of the first International Thermonuclear Research Reactor (ITER). READ MORE

  3. 3. Material migration in tokamaks : Erosion-deposition patterns and transport processes

    Author : Armin Weckmann; Marek Rubel; Rudolf Neu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEXTOR; fusion; plasma physics; transport; migration; tracers; tokamak; limiter; divertor; high-Z; ion beam analysis; Rutherford backscattering; Nuclear reaction analysis; Elastic recoil detection analysis; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Controlled thermonuclear fusion may become an attractive future electrical power source. The most promising of all fusion machine concepts is called a tokamak. The fuel, a plasma made of deuterium and tritium, must be confined to enable the fusion process. It is also necessary to protect the wall of tokamaks from erosion by the hot plasma. READ MORE

  4. 4. Impact of Surface Structures onDeposition and Erosion in a Tokamak

    Author : Yushan Zhou; Henric Bergsåker; Ivancica Bogdanovic Radovic; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Deposition; erosion; JET; micro ion beam analysis; Deposition; erosion; JET; mikrojonstråleanalys; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Fusion is a potentially unlimited and environmentally friendly energy source for human society in the future. However, along the way towards the application of fusion energy there are still unresolved complications. Among them, deposition and erosion are two critical issues. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sawteeth and other Transport Phenomena Induced by Ex-drifts in Tokamaks

    Author : Anders Ödblom; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Electric fields and the concomitant ExB-drift play a prominent role in many plasma physics phenomena in Tokamaks. Several issues relevant for fusion research and related to the ExB-driven transport, are addressed in the present thesis. READ MORE
