  1. 1. Energy Efficient Air Quality Solutions for Vehicle Cabins

    Author : Dixin Wei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; climate system; private car; measurements; particulate matters; CO2; simulations; air quality; air filter; UFP; filter status; energy use; vehicle cabin;

    Abstract : Maintaining a good air quality level is essential for reducing potential health risks for human beings. Vehicle cabin is one common environment where people spend increasing amount of time in modern societies. It’s an environment challenged by elevated pollutants from surrounding traffics, especially small particles like PM2. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cabin Air Quality in Commercial Aircraft : Exposure, Symptoms and Signs

    Author : Torsten Lindgren; Dan Norbäck; Gunilla Wieslander; Jan Sundell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; airline crew; aviation medicine; micro-organism; cabin air quality; air humidity; atopy; occupational exposure; environmental tobacco smoke ETS ; psychosocial work environment; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; arbets- och miljömedicin; Occupational and Environmental Medicine;

    Abstract : The objective of the dissertation was to study the cabin environment, and identify personal and environmental risk factors, associated with symptoms, and perception of cabin air quality. Another objective was to study if ban of smoking, and increased relative air humidity on intercontinental flights, could have a beneficial health effect. READ MORE

  3. 3. Anthropogenic influence on climate through changes in aerosol emissions from air pollution and land use change

    Author : Juan Camilo Acosta Navarro; Ilona Riipinen; Annica M.L. Ekman; Hans-Christen Hansson; Risto Makkonen; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : Particulate matter suspended in air (i.e. aerosol particles) exerts a substantial influence on the climate of our planet and is responsible for causing severe public health problems in many regions across the globe. READ MORE

  4. 4. Environmental sanitation situation and solute transport in variably saturated soil in peri-urban Kampala

    Author : Robinah Kulabako; Roger Thunvik; Felix Mtalo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental Sanitation; Kampala; Modelling; Phosphorus transport; Shallow groundwater; Peri-urban; Vadose zone; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The environmental sanitation situation in Kampala’s peri-urban areas was reviewed and investigated through field studies, structured interviews with personnel from key institutions and administration of questionnaires to households in a selected peri-urban settlement (Bwaise III Parish).  In this settlement, specific field and laboratory measurements were undertaken so as to create a better understanding of the environmental sanitation situation, anthropogenic pollution loads and their transport and impact (with a focus on Phosphorus) in Kampala’s Peri-urban areas in pursuit of interventions for improving the environmental sanitation and protecting the shallow groundwater resource there. 5. 5. Experimental study of an intermittent ventilation system in high occupancy spaces

    Author : Alan Kabanshi; Patrik Sörqvist; Hans Wigö; Robert Ljung; Hazim Awbi; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Intermittent airflow; Indoor air quality; Perceived air quality; Thermal sensation; thermal comfort; Air movement acceptability; Convective cooling; Cooling effect.; Intermittent luftflöde; Luftstrålar; Upplevd luftkvalitet; Termisk komfort; Acceptans av luftrörelser; Konvektiv kylning; Kyleffekt.; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Abstract : Spaces with high occupancy density like classrooms are challenging to ventilate and use a lot of energy to maintain comfort. Usually, a compromise is made between low energy use and good Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), of which poor IEQ has consequences for occupants’ health, productivity and comfort. READ MORE
