  1. 11. Genetics of diabetic subtypes

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Camilla Cervin; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; Mutation; Association; Genetics; LADA; Diabetes; MODY; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : There are two major types of diabetes mellitus, Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), however a number of subtypes have been defined and classified. Maternally Inherited Diabetes and Deafness (MIDD) and Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) are monogenic forms, whereas Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) is thought to be a polygenic subtype similar to T1D. 2. 12. Ion channel control of phasic insulin secretion

    University dissertation from Islet patophysiology

    Author : Xingjun Jing; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; phasic insulin secretion; Diabetes; pancreatic β-cells; ClC chloride channel; exocytosis; CaV channel;

    Abstract : Glucose-stimulated insulin secretion exhibits a biphasic pattern. The mechanism underling biphasic insulin secretion is not fully understood, but consensus exists that an elevation in [Ca2+]i is required for both first- and second-phase insulin secretion. READ MORE

  3. 13. Markers of Infection in Childhood Autoimmune Diabetes and Related Disorders

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Anna-Lena Nilsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Autoimmune type 1 diabetes Ljungan virus antibodies Islet autoantibodies HLA;

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to contribute to the knowledge about mechanisms involved in the development of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and other autoimmune diseases in children. Immune markers in relation to genetic propensity in children with autoimmune disease, mainly T1D and a small group of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and thyroiditis (THYR), as well as healthy controls have been studied. 4. 14. Triggers of autoimmunity. Studies on gestational events

    University dissertation from Unit of Diabetes and Celiac disease, Clinical Sciences, Malmö

    Author : Sabina Lindehammer; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islet autoantibodies; pregnancy; type 1 diabetes; celiac disease;

    Abstract : Objective The primary aim of this thesis was to test whether gestational exposure to environmental factors may induce islet autoimmunity. The second aim was to determine to what extent the exposure to viruses or other environmental factors is a risk factor for type 1 diabetes in the offspring. READ MORE

  5. 15. Effects of Ca2+, microRNAs, and rosuvastatin on insulin-secreting beta cell function

    University dissertation from Islet cell exocytosis, Dept of Clinical Scinces

    Author : Vishal Ashok Salunkhe; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes; exocytosis; Ca2 ; miR-375; miR-335; rosuvastatin; voltage-gated Na channels; STXBP1; SNAP25; SYT11; glucose homeostasis; beta cell function;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a condition of high blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance and defective insulin secretion. Impaired insulin secretion plays a major role in the pathophysiology of T2D, it is mainly attributed to beta cell function i.e. failure to secrete insulin or reduced beta cell mass. READ MORE
