  1. 6. Novel Approaches to Treatment and Prevention of Diabetic Nephropathy

    Author : Lina Nordquist; Mats Sjöquist; Peter Bergsten; William J. Welch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; Diabetes; Nephropathy; C-peptide; Microneedle; Renal; GFR; Oxygen Consumption; Reabsorption; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Several studies have reported beneficial effects of C-peptide supplementation in diabetic patients and animal models of insulinopenic diabetes. However, it is also established that good glycemic control is essential to minimize the risk of diabetes-induced complications. READ MORE

  2. 7. Candidate Genes for Late Diabetic Complications

    Author : Eero Lindholm; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TNF; sekretion; LTA; Endocrinology; nephropathy; diabetes mellitus; retinopathy; neuropathy; genetic; UCP; diabetologi; AGER; MHc2TA; HLA-DQB1; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; diabetology;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The new WHO criteria for classification of diabetes takes into account also clinical stages dividing the diabetic patients into noninsulin requiring (NIR), insulin requiring for control (IRC) and insulin requiring for survival (IRS) subgroups. 3. 8. Long term complications in juvenile diabetes mellitus

    Author : Maria Nordwall; Johnny Ludvigsson; Knut Borch-Johnsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes mellitus type 1; diabetic retinopathy; diabetic nephropathy; diabetic neuropathy; epidemiology; C-peptide; Diabetology; Diabetologi;

    Abstract : Background/aim. The incidence of microvascular complications has been reported to be unchanged the last decades. However, in randomized clinical trials it has been shown that improved metabolic control can reduce the development of long term complications. READ MORE

  4. 9. Metabolic aspects on diabetic nephropathy

    Author : Maria Svensson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; invärtesmedicin; Internal Medicine;

    Abstract : Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is associated with morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular disease and renal failure. This study focused on the impact of glycemic control on the development of DN and the metabolic consequences of DN. The euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp technique was used to assess insulin sensitivity and insulin clearance. READ MORE

  5. 10. Aspects of the glomerular barrier in healthy and diabetic kidneys

    Author : Marie Jeansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : glomerular size and charge selectivity; isolated perfused kidney; electron microscopy; glycocalyx; diabetic nephropathy; NOD mice;

    Abstract : Each day 180 liters of plasma is filtered in the kidneys. Under normal conditions, the glomerular barrier restricts the passage of macromolecules such as albumin while it is highly permeable to water and small solutes. Proteinuria is a hallmark of renal disease and reflects impairment of the glomerular barrier. READ MORE
