    Abstract : This study sought to explain how crime victims emerged as a target group in the Swedish Social Services Act in 2001. The findings, derived from legislative documents, a literature review, and focus group interviews with social workers, showed that the 2001 provisions both duplicated and undermined pre-existing provisions of the Social Services Act.     Abstract : This thesis comprises studies of prevalence and indicators of depressive mood during pregnancy, two months and one year post partum as well as on studies of prevalence, and indicators of being hit by the partner in the first post partum year and disclosure of such violence. A national cohort of 4600 Swedish-speaking women were recruited to the KUB project (Kvinnors Upplevelse av Barnafödande) and consists of about 70 percent of women enrolled in early pregnancy to antenatal care during three predestined weeks.     Abstract : Objectives: The specific objectives were to 1) determine the prevalence and predictors of domestic violence during pregnancy; 2) explore community perceptions of factors associated with domestic violence in Wakiso district of Uganda; 3) explore pregnant adolescents experiences and coping strategies regarding violence; 4) investigate the association between domestic violence, pregnancy intention and induced abortion; and 5) investigate whether domestic violence during pregnancy is associated with obstetric complications (leading to antepartum hospitalization) or low birth weight (LBW) delivery. Methods: Paper I was a cross-sectional study among 379 women attending antenatal clinic in Mulago hospital, Kampala, Uganda, from January to May 2000, to assess risk factors, nature and severity of domestic violence during pregnancy.
