16. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder : alterations of motor behaviour and dopaminergic transmission
Abstract : Altered catecholaminergic neurotransmission in the brain has long been thought to be of importance in the regulation of motor behavior and cognitive performance in children who had symptoms of distractability, impulsivity and clumsiness. The dopamine theory of AD/HD has mainly been substantiated by: i) the effects of psychostimulants, which target the dopamine transporter (DAT), and thereby reduce impulsiveness and inattentiveness, increase the striatal cerebral blood flow and functional activity, and ii) the evidence from linkage studies associating the AD/HD syndrome with allelic variations of genes encoding the dopamine transporter and, possibly, the dopamine D4 receptors. 17. Regulation of midbrain dopaminergic neuron development by Wnts, sFRPs and bHLH proteins
Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder. The main pathology is characterized by progressive degeneration of the dopaminergic (DA) neurons of the substantia nigra leading to loss of striatal dopamine innervation. The knowledge about the fundamental mechanisms behind the degenerative process has been limited. READ MORE

18. Erasing Fear : Effect of Disrupting Fear Memory Reconsolidation on Central and Peripheral Nervous System Activity
Abstract : Fear memories, here defined as learned associations between a stimulus and a physiological fear reaction, are formed through fear conditioning. In animals, fear memories, present in the lateral amygdala, undergo reconsolidation after recall. READ MORE

19. Anatomical studies of the dopamine system in the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland
Abstract : The hypothalamus is a small, evolutionarily conserved brain region, necessary for our survival as individuals and as a species. It collects various sensory inputs, process them to maintain homeostasis and to overcome stressors, and generates outputs that affect the autonomic nervous system, the endocrine system and somatomotor behaviors. 20. Effects of nicotine on mesolimbocortical dopaminergic neurotransmission : a pharmacological study in the rat
Abstract : Tobacco-smoking represents a form of drug addiction to nicotine (NlC) and the reinforcing and dependence-producing properties of NIC depend largely on central dopamine (DA) neurons, located in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and projecting mainly to the nucleus accumbens (NAc; mesolimbic DA system) and the medial prefrontal cortex (PFC; mesocortical DA system). Generally, the mesolimbic DA system plays a pivotal role in the reinforcing effects of natural rewards as well as of drugs of abuse. READ MORE
