  1. 6. Direct Conversion of Human Fibroblasts to Induced Neurons

    Author : Ulrich Pfisterer; Utvecklings- och regenerativ neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cellular Reprogramming; Direct Conversion; Human Induced Neurons; Dopaminergic; Cell Replacement Therapy; Lentiviral Vectors;

    Abstract : During direct cellular reprogramming, forced expression of key transcription factors (TFs) directly converts one terminally differentiated cell type into that of another fate, exemplified in this theses by the conversion of fibroblasts into functional induced neurons (iNs). Direct conversion of mouse fibroblasts to functional neurons was established in 2010, and the starting point of my doctoral thesis was the aim to transfer iN-technology to human cells and to explore the potential of this technique in regards to generate subtype-specific neurons as well as to use these cells for transplantation studies. 2. 7. A long and winding road: Differentiating human embryonic stem cells into dopaminergic neurons

    Author : Oktar Guloglu; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipocyte; PA6; DZNEP; dopaminergic differentiation; embryonic stem cells;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. Since the motor manifestations of the disease is associated with the loss of dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta, cell replacement therapy is a promising approach for treatment. 3. 8. Mechanisms controlling midbrain dopaminergic neuron development

    Author : Shanzheng Yang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The degeneration of midbrain dopaminergic (mDA) neurons accounts for some of the main motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Efforts during the last decades have focused on understanding how mDA neurons are generated and maintained with the hope of developing novel stem cell-based replacement therapies. READ MORE

  4. 9. Dopaminergic stabilizers for the treatment of schizophrenia. Rat studies focusing on negative symptoms and mechanisms of action

    Author : Johan P. Rung; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ACR16; dopaminergic stabilizers; -MK-801; motor activity; negative symptoms; - -OSU6162; prolactin; rat; schizophrenia; social withdrawal;

    Abstract : Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder manifested by positive, negative and cognitive symptoms. Current antipsychotic drugs have poor effects on negative and cognitive symptoms, thus necessitating the development of new antipsychotic treatments. Dopaminergic stabilizers constitute a novel concept for the treatment of schizophrenia. READ MORE
