1. Upconversion in Er doped silica : - characterization and modeling
Abstract : Further increase of erbium concentrations in Er-doped amplifiers and lasers is needed for the design of efficient, reliable, compact and cost-effective components for telecommunications and other photonic applications. However, this is hindered by Er concentration dependent loss mechanism known as upconversion. READ MORE

2. Photon Upconversion in Heavily Doped Semiconductors
Abstract : In this thesis the luminescence properties of highly doped semiconductors are studied with focus on degenerately n-doped InP. It is demonstrated how photoluminescence measurements on degenerately doped semiconductors allow an estimation of the doping concentration without need for electrical contacts. READ MORE

3. Transparent Conductive Tin Doped Indium Oxide : Characterisation of Thin Films Made by Sputter Deposition with Silver Additive and by Spin Coating from Nanoparticle Dispersions
Abstract : Thin films of tin doped indium oxide (ITO) were prepared by two different methods: by sputter deposition with silver additive and by spin coating of a nanoparticle dispersion.ITO films doped with ≤ 20 at% of silver were prepared either as homogenous blends of ITO and silver or as intermixed layers. 4. Resonant states in modulation-doped heterostructures
Abstract : This thesis deals with the properties of donors placed inside or outside a heterostructure quantum well (QW). The focus of the investigation has been on the formation of resonant states, which are a hybridization of the discrete localized impurity levels and the continuous two-dimensional QW subbands. 5. Coherent Processes in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Solids
Abstract : This thesis describes a number of coherent processes, such as quantum information processing, superradiance and electromagnetically induced transparency, which have been experimentally implemented using rare-earth-ion-doped crystals. The rare-earths are a class of elements that have in common, an atomic structure that allows for very long lifetimes as well as coherence times, both on optical transitions and on spin transitions.
