  1. 1. On the development of postural adjustments in sitting and standing

    Author : Åsa Hedberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : We have studied postural adjustments, i.e., muscle activity elicited by external perturbations in typically developing infants during the periods in life when independent sitting and standing emerge. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design and Control Parameter Optimization of Soft Ankle Exoskeleton for People with Dropfoot and Excessive Inversion

    Author : Xiaochen Zhang; Elena Gutierrez-Farewik; Ruoli Wang; Susanne Palmcrantz; Shaoping Bai; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Assistive device; Biomechanics; Gait impairment; Movement augmentation; Assistiv enhet; Biomekanik; Gångnedsättning; Rörelseförstärkning; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Wearable robotics and exoskeletons have been explored for their efficacy in physical rehabilitation and for assistance in daily activities for people with motor disorders. The overall objective of this thesis is to design a powered soft exoskeleton for people with dropfoot and excessive inversion, commonly after a stroke, and to optimize the control parameters for each individual while considering different dimensions. 3. 3. Foot-Ankle Joints Responses. Epidemiology, Biomechanics and Mathematical Modeling

    Author : Chantal S. Parenteau; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mathematical models; biomechanics; range of motion; ankle injury; injury mechanisms; ligament failure; center of rotation; ankle and subtalar joints; ankle fracture;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to acquire better knowledge of foot-ankle injuries because of their increasing importance in car crashes. Three approaches were used: epidemiology, biomechanics and mathematical modeling. READ MORE

  4. 4. Achilles tendon loading and deformation during rehabilitation and use of ankle foot orthoses

    Author : Åsa Fröberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Achilles tendon rupture is a common injury which most often affects otherwise healthy individuals and which causes long periods of rehabilitation with absence from work and sport activities and frequently sequele with reduced calf muscle performance. The aim of this thesis is to improve understanding of how injury affects the function of the Achilles tendon, and to functionally evaluate different designs of ankle foot orthoses used during rehabilitation after an Achilles tendon rupture. 5. 5. Modelling of Factors Influencing Foot Ankle Responses and Injuries in Car Crashes

    Author : Niklas Höglund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mathematical model; foot-ankle injuries; parameter study; toepan intrusion;

    Abstract : Foot and ankle injuries in frontal car collisions are believed to be caused mainly by occupant contact with the floor and toepan, occupant interaction with the pedals, and the lower leg being deformed between the floor and knee bolster. A better understanding of the causes of foot and ankle injuries is required to design cars for improved safety of the legs. READ MORE
