  1. 16. Biomarkers of oxidative stress and their application for assessment of individual radiosensitivity

    Author : Siamak Haghdoost; Mats Harms-Ringdahl; Steffen Loft; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oxidative stress; 8-oxo-dG; 8-oh-dG; Radiosensitivity; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Abstract : Radiotherapy is one of the most common therapeutic methods for treatment of many types of cancer. Despite many decades of development and experience there is much to improve, both in efficacy of treatment and to decrease the incidences of adverse healthy tissue reactions. READ MORE

  2. 17. Factors potentially influencing pathogenetic mechanisms and hyperglycemia in pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes : clinical studies in humans

    Author : Henrik Wagner; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The pathogenetic mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes (T2D) and prediabetes involve an interaction between β-cell dysfunction and insulin resistance (IR). The resulting hyperglycemia, as well as other clustered cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in T2D, constitutes a severe hazard for development of complications to the disease. READ MORE

  3. 18. Transducer properties of a mechanoreceptor : an electrophysiological and pharmacological study of the crayfish stretch receptor

    Author : Jiahui Lin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : stretch receptor; Na channels; K channels; local anesthetics; calmodulin antagonist; patch clamp; voltage clamp;

    Abstract : The abdominal stretch receptor organ of the crayfish, an analog to the human muscle spindle, contains one slowly adapting (SA) and one rapidly adapting (RA) receptor neuron. The general aims of this project were to elucidate, in the SA and RA neurons, the participation of voltagegated Na+ and K+ channels in overall transducer process and adaptation, and to study possible blocking agents specific to mechanosensitive (MS) channels. 4. 19. Effects of the angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker (AT₁ receptor blocker) candesartan cilexetil on systemic and renal haemodynamics in hypertensive patients

    Author : Katarina Fridman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Established primary hypertension is primarily characterised by elevated peripheral resistance and an increase in renal vascular resistance. Antagonism of angiotensin II may be a particularly relevant intervention in this condition, as angiotensin II is known to act both as a powerful vasoconstrictor and as a stimulus to vascular hyperthrophy. 5. 20. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies on cisplatin in mice and men

    Author : Anders Johnsson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; immunohistochemistry; nephrotoxicity; pharmacodynamics; pharmacokinetics; Cisplatin; DNA adducts; platinum; onkologi; cancer; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : Methodological tools for studies of the cytostatic agen cisplatin (CDDP) were explored and applied to elucidate various aspects of pharmacokinetics, drug distribution, chemomodulation and pharmacodynamics. An immunohistochemical assay for analysis of CDDP-DNA adducts, i.e. READ MORE
