  1. 1. Double Layer Forces: the Role of Molecular Solvents

    Author : Luis Pegado; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dielectric continuum model; molecular solvent; Stockmayer fluid; electrical double layer; ion-ion correlations; Monte Carlo simulations; thermodynamic modeling; pressure curves; interaction free energy; packing effects;

    Abstract : The dielectric continuum model has rightfully been and continues to be a major workhorse for theory and modelling in Surface and Colloid Chemistry. Due to the implicit description of water, entering only as a scaling constant for charge-charge interactions, one would not expect it to work for short distances. READ MORE

  2. 2. Low-Cost, Environmentally Friendly Electric Double-Layer Capacitors : Concept, Materials and Production

    Author : Britta Andres; Håkan Olin; Christina Dahlström; Jonas Örtegren; Renyun Zhang; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electric Double-Layer Capacitor; Graphite; Cellulose Nanofibers; Large-Scale; Mass Balancing; Metal-Free;

    Abstract : Today’s society is currently performing an exit from fossilfuel energy sources. The change to sustainable alternativesrequires inexpensive and environmentally friendly energy storagedevices. However, most current devices contain expensive,rare or toxic materials. These materials must be replaced bylow-cost, abundant, nontoxic components. READ MORE

  3. 3. Interfacial properties of calcium montmorillonite in aqueous solutions : Density functional theory and classical molecular dynamics studies on the electric double layer

    Author : Guomin Yang; Göran Lindbergh; Ivars Neretnieks; Michael Holmboe; Jan Forsman; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Clay minerals; Bentonite; density functional theory; molecular dynamics; GROMACS; electric double layer; electrolytes; ionic liquids; primitive model; CLAYFF forcefield.; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The swelling properties of Bentonite are highly affected by clay content and the clay-water interactions that arise from the ion distribution in the diffuse double layer formed near the charged montmorillonite (or smectite) surfaces. Existing continuum models describing the electric double layers, such as classical Poisson-Boltzmann and DLVO theory, ignore the ion-ion correlations, which are especially important for multivalent ions at high surface charge and ionic strength. 4. 4. The Double Layer Potential Operator Through Functional Calculus

    Author : Michail Krimpogiannis; Andreas Rosén; Bengt-Ove Turesson; Kaj Nyström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Layer potential operators associated to elliptic partial differential equations have been an object of investigation for more than a century, due to their contribution in the solution of boundary value problems through integral equations.In this Licentiate thesis we prove the boundedness of the double layer potential operator on the Hilbert space of square integrable functions on the boundary, associated to second order uniformly elliptic equations in divergence form in the upper half-space, with real, possibly non-symmetric, bounded measurable coefficients, that do not depend on the variable transversal to the boundary. 5. 5. Airborne sound insulation of single and double plate constructions

    Author : Ulrica Kernen; Gudni Jóhannesson; Waldemar Maysenhölder; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Construction engineering; : Airborne sound insulation; single plate; double plate; floating-floor; sound reduction index; sound transmission.; Byggnadsteknik; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The sound insulation demands for dwellings and public building has increased over the years as the number of sound sources has grown. From the outside our homes are exposed to noise from cars, trains, airplanes, etc. Noise intrudes from our neighbours and their television and stereo equipments. READ MORE
