  1. 1. Ditransitives in Swedish : A Usage-Based Study of the Double Object Construction and Semantically Equivalent Prepositional Object Constructions 1800–2016

    Author : Fredrik Valdeson; Cecilia Falk; Jan Svanlund; Catrin Norrby; Elena Smirnova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; ditransitives; double object construction; dative alternation; Late Modern Swedish; construction grammar; usage-based; lexical richness; language change; semantic change; semantic maps; taxonomic networks; horizontal links; Scandinavian Languages; nordiska språk;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the use of the Swedish double object construction (the DOC) and compares this with the use of three semantically equivalent prepositional object constructions (POCs): the till-POC, the åt-POC and the för-POC. The thesis has a diachronic perspective, investigating changes in the use of these four constructions between 1800 and 2016. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Double Layer Potential Operator Through Functional Calculus

    Author : Michail Krimpogiannis; Andreas Rosén; Bengt-Ove Turesson; Kaj Nyström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Layer potential operators associated to elliptic partial differential equations have been an object of investigation for more than a century, due to their contribution in the solution of boundary value problems through integral equations.In this Licentiate thesis we prove the boundedness of the double layer potential operator on the Hilbert space of square integrable functions on the boundary, associated to second order uniformly elliptic equations in divergence form in the upper half-space, with real, possibly non-symmetric, bounded measurable coefficients, that do not depend on the variable transversal to the boundary. 3. 3. Studies on Factivity, Complementation, and Propositional Attitudes

    Author : Roberta Colonna Dahlman; Italienska; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Protagonist projection.; Sapere; Ambiguity; Factive islands; Conversational implicature; Presupposition; Entailment; Regret; Know; Factivity; The Interface Hypothesis; L1 Attrition; Verbs of propositional attitude; Complementizer; Gallipolino; Sentential complementation;

    Abstract : This dissertation is a collection of seven papers in which a number of questions are investigated regarding verbs that take a sentential complement as their direct object. These verbs are considered from different perspectives, namely from the perspective of the propositional attitude they express, or from the perspective of the syntactic construction they select, or from the point of view of the implications to which they might give rise.
