  1. 1. From endothelial cells to the vascular network : How cell migration and proliferation are orchestrated to build lymphatic vessels

    Author : Di Peng; Katarzyna Koltowska; Vermot Julien; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lymphangiogenesis; Cell migration; Zebrafish; Biologi med inriktning mot zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Animal Development;

    Abstract : Lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) migrate across body to form a branched network, which is crucial for fluid drainage and immune cell trafficking of the tissues. However, the molecular mechanisms behind the spatiotemporal regulation and fine-tuning of LEC migration remain largely unknown. READ MORE

  2. 2. Foam Formation and Starch Gelatinization with Alpha-Crystalline Emulsifiers

    Author : Gisela Richardson; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; image analysis.; rheology; microscopy; amylose-lipid complex; gelatinization; dynamical arrest; amylose; starch; sponge cake; foam; emulsifier; alpha-gel; physical state;

    Abstract : In the baking industry, emulsifiers in the alpha-gel state are used for foam formation. This thesis focuses on some parts of the effects of the emulsifier: how the foam formation and foam stability are influenced by the physical state of the emulsifier, how emulsifiers change the gelatinization and gel formation of starch, and the impact that these factors may have in a true product such as a sponge cake. 3. 3. Peatland hydrology in boreal Sweden: Modelling, long-term data analysis, and experimental rewetting

    Author : Shirin Karimi; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Peatlands are the dominant type of wetland in boreal ecosystems and they are thought to play a major role in moderating hydrological extremes such as floods and droughts. Despite the valuable ecosystem services that they provide, a large proportion of peatlands around the globe has been degraded by human activity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Terrain Modelling with GIS for Tectonic Geomorphology : Numerical Methods and Applications

    Author : Gyözö Jordan; Ulf Qvarfort; Tsehaie Woldai; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; digital elevation model; digital terrain modelling; GIS; morphometry; tectonic geomorphology; Miljöteknik; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Analysis of digital elevation models (DEMs) by means of geomorphometry provides means of recognising fractures and characterising the morphotectonics of an area in a quantitative way. The objective of the thesis is to develop numerical methods and a consistent GIS methodology for tectonic geomorphology and apply it to test sites. READ MORE

  5. 5. The hidden landscape : on fine-scale green structure and its role regulating ecosystem services in the urban environment

    Author : Johanna Deak Sjöman; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The thesis investigates and highlights the role of fine scale green structure in the urban landscape with regards to the regulating ecosystem services of runoff mitigation, wind speed regulation and modification to mean radiant temperatures. The analysis was based on case studies in southern Sweden, projecting from a flooding incident in the Höjeå river catchment in 2007 and the current seafront development of Lomma Harbour and similar schemes in the Öresund region.
