  1. 1. Time dependent material properties of shotcrete for hard rock tunnelling

    Author : Lars Elof Bryne; Anders Ansell; Wolfgang Kusterle; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shotcrete; rock; granite; bond strength; compressive strength; pullout testing; failure modes; interfacial transition zone; micro structure; ettringite; set accelerator; shrinkage; drains; glass fibres; laboratory testing; tunnels tunnelling;

    Abstract : In this thesis different mechanical properties for shotcrete (sprayed concrete) such as compression strength, bond strength, bending tensile strength, elastic modulus, free and restrained shrinkage as a function of its age was investigated. One of the main issues was to investigate the difference between ordinary cast concrete and shotcrete. READ MORE

  2. 2. Embankments founded on sulphide clay : - some aspects related to ground improvement by vertical drains

    Author : Rasmus Müller; Stefan Larsson; Göran Sällfors; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geotechnical engineering; embankments; vertical drains; sulphide clay; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : In this thesis, some aspects concerning building embankments founded on sulphide clay are studied, with special reference to ground improvement by preloading in combination with prefabricated vertical drains (PVD’s). The main purpose of the research was to increase empirical knowledge of the mechanical behaviour of sulphide clays subjected to embankment loadings and of the interaction between vertical drains and sulphide clays. 4. 4. Blood saving in orthopaedic surgery

    Author : Jan Widman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A substantial blood loss frequently accompanies total hip and knee replacement surgery. This is a potential health risk and associated with increased need for allogenic blood transfusions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Freezing Temperature Flows in Railway Tunnels and its Consequence on the Rock Supporting Structure, the Rock and the Reinforcing Elements

    Author : Anna Andrén; Lars-Olof Dahlström; Erling Nordlund; Lars O Ericsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tunnel; frost penetration; ice formation; freeze-thaw test; frost shattering; temperature measurement; maintenance; degradation of rock and shotcrete; cold climate; Tunnel; köldinträngning; isbildning; frystester; frostsprängning; temperaturmätning; underhåll; nedbrytning av berg och sprutbetong; kallt klimat; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : Water in the surrounding rock mass flows into the tunnel via naturally occurring joints and via cracks caused by the blasting used to excavate the tunnel. The most common method in Sweden to reduce or prevent leakage problems are first and foremost the use of grouting. READ MORE
