  1. 1. Functional modelling of the human timing mechanism

    Author : Guy Madison; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Psychology; Brain mechanisms; Brownian motion; drift; dynamical systems; fractal; human; Gaussian noise; Hurst exponent; time; time series analysis; timing; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Abstract : Behaviour occurs in time, and precise timing in the range of seconds and fractions of seconds is for most living organisms necessary for successful interaction with the environment. Our ability to time discrete actions and to predict events on the basis of prior events indicates the existence of an internal timing mechanism. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ruin probabilities and first passage times for self-similar processes

    Author : Zbigniew Michna; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Simulation of Ruin Probability; Monte Carlo Method; Skorokhod Topology; Weak Convergence; Rice s Formula; Fluid Model; Risk Model; Scaled Brownian Motion; Long Range Dependence; Fractional Brownian Motion; Renewal Process; Levy Motion; Stable Process; Self-Similar Process; Gaussian Process; Ruin Probability; First Passage Time; Exponential Bound; Picands Constant.; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates ruin probabilities and first passage times for self-similar processes. We propose self-similar processes as a risk model with claims appearing in good and bad periods. Then, in particular, we get the fractional Brownian motion with drift as a limit risk process. 4. 4. CFD Predictions Including Verification and Validation of Hydrodynamic Forces and Moments on a Ship in Restricted Waters

    Author : Lu Zou; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; shallow water; canal; verification and validation; drift motion; hull; hydrodynamic forces and moments; deep water; bank effects; RANS;

    Abstract : The evaluation of ship manoeuvrability is of significance at the initial design stage, as inappropriate manoeuvring performance may result in unstable ship motion, difficulties in steering and even marine accidents. Restricted waters, with the presence of solid boundaries of the flow field, such as a shallow seabed below the hull or a side bank in the vicinity of the hull, complicate the flow field and introduce an influence on hydrodynamic forces and moments acting on the hull. 5. 5. CFD Predictions Including Verification and Validation of Hydrodynamic Forces and Moments on Ships in Restricted Waters

    Author : Lu Zou; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; RANS; deep water; shallow water; ship-to-ship interaction; bank effects; tanker hulls; canal; verification and validation; drift motion; hydrodynamic forces and moments;

    Abstract : The evaluation of ship manoeuvrability is of significance at the initial design stage, as inappropriate manoeuvring performance may result in unstable ship motion, difficulties in steering and even marine accidents. Restricted waters, with the presence of solid boundaries of the flow field, such as a shallow seabed below the hull, a side bank in the vicinity of the hull or another hull nearby, complicate the flow field and introduce an influence on hydrodynamic forces and moments acting on the hull.
