  1. 1. Towards computational models for road-user interaction: Drivers overtaking pedestrians and cyclists

    Author : Alexander Rasch; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; active safety; vulnerable road users; cyclist safety; driver models; interaction models; overtaking; Euro NCAP; driver behavior; Pedestrian safety;

    Abstract : Introduction: Crashes resulting from a failed interaction between drivers and vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians or cyclists, can lead to severe injuries or fatalities, especially after failed overtaking maneuvers on rural roads where designated refuge areas are often absent, and impact speeds high. This thesis contains two studies that shed light on driver interaction with either 1) a pedestrian or 2) a cyclist, and oncoming traffic while overtaking. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling driver steering and neuromuscular behaviour

    Author : Ola Benderius; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reaching; neuromuscular behaviours; lateral control; driver models; Driver behaviours; active safety; autonomous vehicles;

    Abstract : This thesis challenges the traditional view of treating steering behaviour as a tracking task, instead treating it as a reaching task. Here, reaching refers to a fundamental human behaviour with the the intriguing characteristic of having a linear relationship between maximum speed and distance, effectively making the movement time constant. 3. 3. Models and meaning : on management models and systems of meaning when implementing change

    Author : Jacob Hallencreutz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

    Abstract : Change has become a vital business partner for many organizations. Survival of most organizations depends on their ability to implement adequate changes to support the organization. This thesis deals with questions about measurement systems, process based system models and organizational change with a specific focus on implementation challenges. READ MORE

  4. 4. A model of attention selection in driving

    Author : Johan A Skifs Engström; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; driver modelling; adaptive behaviour; Driver inattention; attention selection; accident analysis; biased competition; driver error; biased competition; driver distraction;

    Abstract : Inattention is one of the most common factors contributing to road crashes. However, the basic mechanisms behind inattention and how it leads to crashes are still relatively poorly understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluating vehicle stability support systems by measuring, analyzing, and modeling driver behavior

    Author : Gustav M Markkula; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SOCIAL SCIENCES; driver behavior; driver models; system evaluation; heavy trucks; driving simulators; active safety; electronic stability control;

    Abstract : This thesis presents an investigation of near-accident behavior of truck drivers, with and without support from an electronic stability control (ESC) system. A critical scenario, involving both collision avoidance and vehicle stabilization on a low-friction surface, was studied in a driving simulator. READ MORE
