  1. 11. The interaction of hydrogen with metallic glass

    Author : Johan Bylin; Gunnar K. Pálsson; Ralph H. Scheicher; Gabriella Andersson; Astrid Pundt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metallic glass; hydrogen; thin film; density functional theory; stochastic quenching; molecular dynamics; x-ray diffraction; pair distribution function; neutron reflectometry; volume expansion; elastic hydrogen-hydrogen interaction; dipole force tensor; electronic structure; optical conductivity; resistivity; optical transmission; x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; thermodynamic driving force; Gibbs free energy; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Combining theoretical ab initio calculations with high-purity thin film sample synthesis and in situ measurements is a compelling way to bridge the gap in our understanding concerning hydrogen in metallic glasses, which is the primary work of this dissertation thesis. The main emphasis has been on how hydrogen affects the structure of metallic glasses, and how those changes influence not only the electronic properties of the amorphous metals but also their thermal stability. 2. 12. Modeling defect structure evolution in spent nuclear fuel container materials

    Author : Arash Hosseinzadeh Delandar; Pavel Korzhavyi; Rolf Sandström; Konstantin Khromov; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cast iron insert; First principles calculations; Point defects; Effective interaction energy; Late blooming phase; Dislocation dynamics; High strain rate deformation; Single-crystal copper; Copper canister; Creep; Glide; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Materials intended for disposal of spent nuclear fuel require a particular combination of physical and chemical properties. The driving forces and mechanisms underlying the material’s behavior must be scientifically understood in order to enable modeling at the relevant time- and length-scales. READ MORE

  3. 13. Developing Theoretical and Empirical Definitions of Safety Problems in Driving Suitable for Active Safety Function Evaluation

    Author : Mikael Ljung Aust; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; avoidance; driver behaviour; pre-crash scenarios; crash causation; adaptation; motivation; conceptual framework; active safety functions;

    Abstract : In passive safety, the requirement specifications used for evaluation of protective functions are both standardised and specified at a high level of detail regarding evaluation scenario definition, performance metrics and pass/fail criteria. For active safety, while several propositions for evaluation scenarios have been made, neither these, nor performance metrics and pass/fail criteria have yet reached a similar level of detail and standardisation. 4. 14. In Quest of the Globally Good Teacher : Exploring the need, the possibilities, and the main elements of a globally relevant core curriculum for teacher education

    Author : Kamran Namdar; Margareta Sandström; Jonas Stier; Jagdish Gundara; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; teacher education; teacher role; core curriculum; Reconstructionism; globalization; transformative agency; Didactics; didaktik;

    Abstract : This primarily theoretical-philosophical study is aimed at identifying the main principles according to which a globally relevant core curriculum for teacher education could be devised at a critical juncture in human history. In order to do that, a Weberian ideal type of the globally good teacher is outlined. READ MORE

  5. 15. Taming the Prophets : Astrology, Orthodoxy and the Word of God in Early Modern Sweden

    Author : Martin Kjellgren; Historia; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Apocalypticism; Astrology; Confessionalization; Heterodoxy; Knowledge; Lutheranism; Magic; Orthodoxy; Politics; Power; Prophecy; Reformation; Religion; Science; Social Discipline; Apocalypticism;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis is to analyse a displacement of the limits between allowable and illicit knowledge in the orthodox, Lutheran discourse of early modern Sweden. Focusing on the debate over astrology, exemplified in the works of Laurentius Paulinus Gothus (1565-1646) and Sigfridus Aronus Forsius (d. READ MORE
