  1. 6. When Driving Automation Fails. Drivers' Experiences and Interactions

    Author : Niklas Strand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HMI; simulator studies; driver behavior; Automated driving; automation failures;

    Abstract : Drivers’ interactions with automation based on experiences from real driving, and results from driving simulators were under investigation in this thesis. The thesis had a mixed methods research approach and was exploratory. Special attention has been given to driver behavior on exposure to unexpected automation failures. READ MORE

  2. 7. The driver response process in assisted and automated driving

    Author : Linda Pipkorn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; automation safety; take-over request; driver behavior; response process; automated driving; driving performance;

    Abstract : Background: Safe assisted and automated driving can be achieved through a detailed understanding of the driver response process (the timing and quality of driver actions and visual behavior) triggered by an event such as a take-over request or a safety-relevant event. Importantly, most current evidence on driver response process in vehicle automation, and on automation effects (unsafe response process) is based on driving-simulator studies, whose results may not generalize to the real world. 3. 8. Effects of hearing loss on traffic safety and mobility

    Author : Birgitta Thorslund; Björn Lyxell; Björn Peters; Björn Lidestam; Håkan Alm; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hearing; Driver; Driving veh ; Behaviour; Cognition; Mental load; Eye movement; Tactile; Warning; Signal; Driver assistance system; Navigation route ; Simulator driving ; Test; Safety; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 841 Road: Road user behaviour;

    Abstract : The aim of this PhD thesis was to investigate traffic safety and mobility for individuals with hearing loss (HL). Three studies were conducted: 1. a questionnaire survey aimed to evaluate differences in choice of transportation that might be related to HL, 2. READ MORE

  4. 9. Evaluation of Adapted Passenger Cars for Drivers with Physical Disabilities

    Author : Björn Peters; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Disabled person; Driver; Car; Adaptation; Equipment; Vehicle handling; Simulator; Adaptive cruise control; Driving aptitude; Thesis; 911 Road: Components of the vehicle; 911 Road: Components of the vehicle; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 84 Road: Road users; 84 Road: Road users;

    Abstract : Driving can provide independent and efficient mobility. However, according to the driving license directive (91/439/EEC) are persons with locomotor impairments are only allowed drive if their disabilities can be compensated. Compensation can be realised by vehicle adaptations. READ MORE

  5. 10. A model for simulation and generation of surrounding vehicles in driving simulators

    Author : Johan Olstam; Jan Lundgren; Pontus Matstoms; Stéphane Espié; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Traffic; Simulation; Model; Traffic flow; Vehicle; Micro; Overtaking; Vehicle spacing; Deceleration; Acceleration; Mathematical model; Simulator; Road: Traffic theory; Road: Traffic theory; TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Driving simulators are used to conduct experiments on for example driver behavior, road design, and vehicle characteristics. The results of the experiments often depend on the traffic conditions. One example is the evaluation of cellular phones and how they affect driving behavior. READ MORE
