  1. 1. Pharmacometric tools to support translational drug development

    Author : Rami Ayoun Alsoud; Ulrika S. H. Simonsson; Michael Lyons; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; drug development; pharmacometrics; pharmacokinetics; pharmacodynamics; non-linear mixed effect models; tuberculosis; dose selection; interspecies scaling; pediatric trials; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : The use of model-informed drug development has been shown to save significant costs and improve decision making early in the drug development process. The work in this PhD thesis aimed to employ pharmacometric tools to support translational drug development from the preclinical to the late clinical stages. READ MORE

  2. 2. Experimental Aspects on Chronic Whiplash-Associated Pain

    Author : Dag Lemming; Björn Gerdle; Per Hansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neck injury; whiplash-associated disorders; chronic pain; central sensitization; pain assessment; drug challenges; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Introduction: Chronic pain after whiplash trauma (chronic WAD) to the neck is still a common clinical problem in terms of pain management, rehabilitation and insurance claims. In contrast to the increased knowledge concerning mechanisms of chronic pain in general, no clinical guidelines exist concerning assessment, pain control and rehabilitation of patients with chronic WAD. 3. 3. Challenges in experimental stroke research : The 17β-estradiol example

    Author : Edvin Ingberg; Jakob Ström; Elvar Theodorsson; Annette Theodorsson; Tomas Deierborg; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Ischemic stroke causes millions of deaths around the world each year, and surviving patients often suffer from long-term disability. Hundreds of promising drug candidates have been identified in animal models, but the clinical trials have repeatedly failed. Lack of methodological quality in the animal studies, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Exploring non-covalent interactions between drug-like molecules and the protein acetylcholinesterase

    Author : Lotta Berg; Anna Linusson; Fredrik Ekström; Joel L. Sussman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acetylcholinesterase; drug discovery; density functional theory; hydrogen bond; nerve-agent antidote; non-covalent interaction; protein-ligand complex; structure-based design; thermodynamics; X-ray crystallography; datorlingvistik; computational linguistics;

    Abstract : The majority of drugs are small organic molecules, so-called ligands, that influence biochemical processes by interacting with proteins. The understanding of how and why they interact and form complexes is therefore a key component for elucidating the mechanism of action of drugs. READ MORE

  5. 5. Environment-Sensitive Multifunctional Drug Delivery Systems

    Author : Jian Qin; Mamoun Muhammed; Marcus Textor; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : Drug delivery systems (DDS) with multiple functionalities such as environment-sensitive drug release mechanisms and visualization agents have motivated the biomedical community as well as materials chemists for more than a decade. This dissertation is concerned with the development of nanoparticles for multifunctional DDS  to tackle several crucial challenges in these complex systems, including polymeric nanospheres which respond to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles/polymeric composite for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents and drug carriers, immunoresponse of nanomaterials and injectable magnetic field sensitive ferrogels.
