  1. 21. Selective laser sintering for 3D printing of medications

    Author : Evgenii Tikhomirov; Jonas Lindh; Julian Quodbach; Maria Strömme; Ocean Cheung; Jarkko Ketolainen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Additive manufacturing; 3D printing; Selective laser sintering; Personalized medicines; Drug manufacturing; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials;

    Abstract : Suboptimal treatment caused by inaccurate dosing of prescribed medications is a challenging issue for the pharmaceutical industry. As a result, certain groups of patients, especially pediatric patients, may suffer from a lack of specific dosage forms, leading to potential side effects. READ MORE

  2. 22. Analytical and Toxicological Aspects of Drug Incorporation into Human Hair

    Author : Robert Kronstrand; Pascal Kintz; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The overall purpose of this thesis was to develop analytical methods for the determination of drugs and melanin content of human hair for practical use in forensic and clinical toxicology. The thesis consists of five papers, two of which are controlled single dose studies where codeine or selegiline were administered to healthy volunteers. READ MORE

  3. 23. A Drosophila Disease-Model for Transthyretin-associated Amyloidosis

    Author : Malgorzata Pokrzywa; Erik Lundgren; Damian Crowther; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transthyretin; amyloid; amyloidosis; Drosophila; transthyretin-associated amyloidosis; Familial amyloid polyneuropathy; neurodegeneration; serum amyloid P component; Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs; drug screens; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Amyloidoses comprise a group of gain-of-toxic function protein misfolding diseases, in which normally soluble proteins in their functional state undergo conformational changes into highly organized and generally intractable thread-like aggregates, termed amyloid fibrils. These structures accumulate predominantly in the extracellular space but growing evidence suggests that amyloids may start to form intracellularly. READ MORE

  4. 24. Relation Between Drug Exposure and Selection of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria

    Author : Sara K. Olofsson; Otto Cars; Dan I. Andersson; Diarmaid Hughes; George G. Zhanel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Microbiology; Pharmacokinetics; Pharmacodynamics; Antibiotic resistance; Selection; Transmission; Mathematical model; Escherichia coli; Mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : The worldwide increase in antibiotic resistance is a concern for public health. When the appropriate antibiotic dosage is determined, the priorities are efficacy and toxicity. The aim of this thesis was to gain knowledge about the most efficient dosing regimens in order to minimize the emergence and selection of antibiotic-resistant mutants. READ MORE

  5. 25. Pharmacoepidemiologic Studies of Diabetes Mellitus - with special reference to - Glucose Control and Prognosis of Type 2 Diabetes

    Abstract : The efficacy and safety of antihyperglycaemic drugs have been evaluated in one American and one British randomized clinical trial, which have given contradictory results. The positive results of the latter may be more convincing as it included a greater number of patients and as its duration was longer. READ MORE
