  1. 1. On drug use, multiple medication and polypharmacy in a national population

    Author : Bo Hovstadius; Göran Petersson; Sven Tågerud; Bengt Åstrand; Björn Wettermark; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : drug use; multiple medication; polypharmacy; register; prevalence; therapeutic intensity; acquisition cost.; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : The application of multiple medications has successively increased during a number of years and has thereby increased the potential risks of adverse drug reactions, interactions and non-adherence to drug therapy. This may result in unnecessary health expenditure, directly due to redundant drug sales, and indirectly due to the increased hospitalization caused by drug-related problems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Biosensor Studies of Ligand Interactions with Structurally Flexible Enzymes : Applications for Antiviral Drug Development

    Author : Matthis Geitmann; U. Helena Danielson; Marc H. V. van Regenmortel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; SPR biosensor; HIV-1 reverse transcriptase; HCMV protease; interaction kinetics; drug discovery; non-nucleoside inhibitor; resistance; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The use of a surface plasmon biosensor fills a missing link in kinetic studies of enzymes, since it measures directly the interaction between biomolecules and allows determination of parameters that are determined only indirectly in activity assays. The present thesis deals with kinetic and dynamic aspects of ligand binding to two viral enzymes: the human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) protease and the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase (HIV-1 RT). 4. 4. Drug policing of youth : examining pre- and post-stop conditions and outcomes

    Author : Susanne Egnell; Robert Svensson; My Lilja; Torkel Richert; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Kriminologi; Criminology;

    Abstract : Given the strong focus on minor drug offenses in Swedish drug control policy and the risk of disparate drug enforcement that may follow from such policies, this thesis explores drug enforcement and the use of coercive measures (enforced drug tests and body searches) towards youths aged 15-20 years. The first study focuses on the circumstances of the detection of minor drug offenses, the grounds for suspicion and use of coercive measures. READ MORE
