1. Drugs and polymers in dissolving solid dispersions : NMR imaging and spectroscopy
Abstract : The number of poorly water-soluble drug substances in the pharmaceutical pipeline is increasing, and thereby also the need to design effective drug delivery systems providing high bioavailability. One favourable formulation approach is preparation of solid dispersions, where dispersing a poorly water-soluble drug in a water-soluble polymer matrix improves the dissolution behaviour and the bioavailability of the drug. 2. Development and Validation of Bioanalytical Methods : Application to Melatonin and Selected Anti-Infective Drugs
Abstract : This thesis describes bioanalytical methods for measuring melatonin and some anti-infective drugs in biological fluids. Solid-phase extraction (SPE) or protein precipitation was used for enrichment and purification of the analytes and Liquid Chromatography (LC) was used to analyze the samples. READ MORE

3. Teenager fatalities : epidemiology and implications for prevention
Abstract : A significant number of teenagers are killed each year by unintentional or intentional injuries. A teenager is in a vulnerable phase of her/his life, going from being a child to adult. This transition often includes testing the limits of their capabilities, which can include, e.g. READ MORE

4. Effects of burns and vasoactive drugs on human skin : Clinical and Experimental studies using microdialysis
Abstract : Patients who require critical care, including those with burns, are affected by a systemic inflammatory reaction, which at times has consequences such as multiple organ dysfunction and failure. It has become increasingly evident that other factors important in the development of organ dysfunction are disturbances at the tissue level, in the microcirculation. READ MORE

5. The Impact of Drugs of Abuse on the Neuroproteome : Application of Immunoblotting and LC-MS-based Proteomics
Abstract : Qualitative and quantitative analysis of proteins can be based either on immunological or on mass spectrometry-utilizing methods. In this thesis, different approaches of protein analysis were applied to elucidate the impact of drugs of abuse on the rat brain. Androgens have been reported to affect mood, anxiety and memory function. READ MORE
