  1. 1. Biological Pretreatment and Dry Digestion Processes for Biogas Production

    Author : Regina Patinvoh; Thierry Ribeiro; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Solid wastes; Dry anaerobic digestion; Textile bioreactor; Plug flow bioreactor; Digestate; Process stability; Pretreatment; Co-digestion; Mesophilic; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Biogas technology has been used quite extensively to generate renewable energy from organic wastes while also recycling nutrients in the wastes and reducing harmful emissions. However, the challenges of low biogas yield from recalcitrant and inhibitory solid wastes together with high construction and operation costs of bioreactors have impeded optimal performance through this process. 2. 2. Bioprocessing of Recalcitrant Substrates for Biogas Production

    Author : Maryam M Kabir; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; anaerobic digestion; biogas; lignocellulose; wool; keratin; pre-treatment; co-digestion; dry digestion; economic evaluation; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery;

    Abstract : The application of anaerobic digestion (AD) as a sustainable waste management technology is growing worldwide, due to high energy prices as well as increasingly strict environmental regulations. The growth of the AD industry necessitates exploring new substrates for their utilisation in AD processes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Two-Stage Conversion of Land and Marine Biomass for Biogas and Biohydrogen Production

    Author : Valentine Nkemka; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; steam pretreatment; dry digestion; biogas; biohydrogen; Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus; cadmium; anaerobic digestion;

    Abstract : The replacement of fossil fuels by renewable fuels such as biogas and biohydrogen will require efficient and economically competitive process technologies together with new kinds of biomass. A two-stage system for biogas production has several advantages over the widely used one-stage continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR). READ MORE

  4. 4. Improvement of Wastewater Sludge Digestion

    Author : Michael Recktenwald; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anaerobic digestion; biogas; cation-binding agents; enzymes; enzymatic activity; extracellular polymeric substances EPS ; industrial scale trials; methanization; municipal sewage; sludge treatment; wastewater treatment plant;

    Abstract : The reduction of sludge volumes for disposal is a topic of high interest for wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) all over the world. Steadily increasing volumes for disposal create an economic, environmental, legislative and technological challenge. READ MORE

  5. 5. Digestion and metabolism of carbohydrates in fish

    Author : Rani Abro; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the digestion and metabolism of carbohydrates in Arctic charr, Eurasian perch and tilapia. Two sources of carbohydrates, native starch (wheat) and chitin (zygomycete biomass), were evaluated. Gut tissue of Arctic charr displayed significant chitinase activity, of both endo- and exo-chitinase forms. READ MORE
