    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin; industrial medicine; Occupational health; developmental toxicity; biomarkers; metabolsim; N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone; dermal absorption;

    Abstract : N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is an organic solvent widely used in the industry. Irritation of the eyes and in the respiratory system has been reported after occupational exposure to low air levels of NMP. The EU has also classified it as a developmental toxicant. 2. 7. Selection and Floral Evolution in Platanthera bifolia and P. chlorantha (Orchidaceae)

    Author : Johanne Maad; Charles B. Fenster; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Evolution; phenotypic selection; male function hypothesis; mating systems; floral shifts; orchids; pollination; moth pollinators; Platanthera.; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Abstract : Natural selection mediated by pollinators has influenced the evolution of floral diversity of the flowering plants (angiosperms). The scope of this thesis was to study: 1) phenotypic selection, 2) mating systems, and 3) floral shifts involved in plant speciation. Model plant species were Platanthera bifolia and P. chlorantha (Orchidaceae). READ MORE

  3. 8. Methodological aspects of unspecific building related symptoms research

    Author : Bo Glas; Berndt Stenberg; Anna-Lena Sunesson; Erik Zimerson; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : This thesis deals with methological issues in the study of chemical exposure and sick building syndrome (SBS). SBS is a combination of general, mucosal and skin symptoms that some people experience when staying in specific buildings. The aim was to find chemical patterns associated with SBS, but also to address methological problems in such study. READ MORE

  4. 9. Visual outcome, ocular findings, and visual processing skills after allogeneic stem cell transplantation in children

    Author : Alba Lucia Törnquist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Stem cell transplantation (SCT) offers a chance of cure in children with leukaemia and other life-threatening haematological, immunological, and metabolic diseases that do not respond to conventional treatment. Pre and post SCT, these children receive irradiation, and/or chemotherapy and immunosuppressive agents which like the primary disease may adversely affect the eye, the central nervous system as well as the posterior visual pathways and potentially threaten vision.     Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Clinical Genetics; klinisk genetik;

    Abstract : In summary, this thesis presents the localisation and identification of genetic variants of which some are disease associated and some considered to be neutral. Knowledge of the basic mechanisms behind human disorders is important both from a biological and medical point of view. READ MORE
