1. Remote sensing of grassland communities : integrated effects of soil nutrients and habitat age
Abstract : Semi-natural grasslands are characterized by high fine-scale plant species richness. The richest grassland communities, with many habitat-specialist species, are found in ancient grassland sites that have a long continuity of grazing management and low levels of soil nutrients. Grazed grasslands were widespread in the historical landscape. READ MORE

2. Disturbance regimes in dry sandy grasslands – past, present and future
Abstract : A number of sandy grassland habitats of interest for biodiversity conservation can be found in Europe. One such habitat is the threatened xeric sand calcareous grassland, which is home to a large number of endangered species. READ MORE

3. Carex humilis - a caespitose clonal plant: ramet demography, ring formation, and community interactions
Abstract : Carex humilis forms rings of densely aggregated ramets in dry grassland vegetation in Central Europe. In the thesis I conclude that ramet demography is important both for analyzing fitness in clonal plants and for understanding how C. humilis rings are formed. I studied the ramet demography of C. 4. Hyperspectral and multispectral remote sensing for mapping grassland vegetation
Abstract : As a consequence of agricultural intensification, large areas of species-rich grasslands have been lost and farmland biodiversity has declined. Previous studies have shown that the continuity of grazing management can have a significant influence on the environmental conditions and the levels of plant species diversity in grassland habitats. 5. Regional and local variation in plant species richness
Abstract : In this thesis, I examine the variation in plant species richness along gradients of productivity and disturbance in grasslands and forest habitats in southern Sweden, and I compare the documented patterns with theoretical predictions. Moreover, I evaluate the relative importance of habitat quality and habitat configuration for the occurrence of field layer species in deciduous forests. READ MORE
