1. Numerical Analysis of Moisture-Related Distortion in Sawn Timber
Abstract : A 3D theory for the numerical simulation of deformations and stresses in wood during moisture variation is described. The constitutive model employed assumes the total strain rate to be the sum of the elastic strain rate, the moisture-induced strain rate, the mechano-sorption strain rate and the creep strain rate. 2. Creep, deformation and moisture redistribution during air convective wood drying and conditioning : air convective wood drying and conditioning
Abstract : Air convective wood drying is associated with a considerable risk for damage to the timber, especially checking and warping. This thesis contains an analysis of creep and deformation during wood drying related to stress development and susceptibility of checking. Also heat and mass transfer problems in the wood drying process are considered. READ MORE

3. A Finite Element Study of the Shape Stability of Sawn Timber Subjected to Moisture Variations
Abstract : Shape instability in timber products exposed to moisture variation is a serious problem since it can make wood products unsuitable for construction purposes. In this thesis the finite element method has been used to simulate deformations during the drying process.….…. READ MORE

4. Moisture Transport and Moisture-Induced Distortions in Timber - an Experimental and Numerical Study
Abstract : Timber products subjected to climatic variations commonly display moisture-induced distortions that can lead to serious problems for end-users. The aim of the thesis, which consists of an extended summary and six appended papers, was to investigate the potential of using the gluing technique suggested here for dealing with problems of moisture-induced distortions and developing the heat and mass transfer models which such distortion analyses require. 5. Acetylation of Solid Wood. Wood Properties and Process Development
Abstract : The influence of acetylation on selected wood properties has been determined for Scandinavian pine and spruce wood, in order to predict the behavior of acetylated wood when it is used in different applications. Only minor differences in both bending strength and the modulus of elasticity were obtained for acetylated wood when compared with unmodified wood, and can, for practical applications, be considered unaltered.
