  1. 1. Dynamic changes in T cell compartments and new approaches in evaluating DSS induced and Gai2 deficient colitis

    Author : Maria Fritsch Fredin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : colitis; Gai2- - mice; dextran sodium sulfate; ex vivo cultures; micro-Computed Tomography; IEL; thymus; Inflammatory Bowel Disease;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of the immunopathology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The first aim was to elucidate how the thymus and the gut epithelium were affected by colitis. The second aim was to investigate new ways of assessing and monitoring colitis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Attenuation of Oxidative Stress, Inflammation and Colorectal Oncogenesis by Food Constituents: Ischaemia/Reperfusion Injury and Induced Colitis in Rodents

    Author : Åsa Håkansson; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; Ischaemia Reperfusion; Rose hips; Colitis; Probiotics; Inflammation; Blueberry;

    Abstract : The enteric microbiota is increasingly implicated as a central factor in the development of intestinal inflammation in humans and experimental animals, and the intestinal environment is considered important in both colorectal cancer development and modulation of mucosal immunity. Diet-induced changes in the different populations of the intestinal microbiota can be achieved by use of probiotic bacteria, dietary fibre and berries rich in phenolic compounds. READ MORE

  3. 3. Colonic barrier function in ulcerative colitis - Interactions between ion and mucus secretion

    Author : Jenny K Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestine; mucus; ion transport; colitis; CFTR;

    Abstract : Anion and mucus secretions have traditionally been looked upon as two separate parts of the epithelial defense system. The importance of anion secretion has been attributed to its role in creating the driving force for fluid secretion that flushes the epithelium from bacteria, while mucus secretion ensures protection via the mucus layer that forms a physical barrier between the bacteria and the epithelium. 4. 4. Effects of Probiotics and Plant Components on Murine Experimental Colitis and Acute Liver Failure

    Author : Nadia Osman; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; bacteriology; virology; Rose hip; Microbiology; Probiotics; Prebiotics; Liver injury; Blueberry; Gastro-enterology; Colitis; Gastroenterologi; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Abstract : Acute liver failure is accompanied by a high rate of bacterial septic complications. High portal level of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) can lead to a pronounced secretion by Kupffer cells of pro-inflammatory mediators which have been shown to be early and important mediators of liver injury. 5. 5. Promoting healing of skin and mucosa by immunomodulation using CXCL12 producing lactic acid bacteria : From bench to bedside

    Author : Emelie Öhnstedt; Mia Phillipson; Neil Forbes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; L.reuteri; wound healing; non-healing wounds; ILP100; colitis; immunotherapy;

    Abstract : Immunotherapies direct the immune system to respond in a certain way, such as to fight cancer or to dampen inflammation. In this thesis, a new immunotherapy, ILP100, is developed using a technology that allows for local production of short-lived immunoregulatory proteins that previously have been undruggable. READ MORE
