1. Platelet activation and aggregation: Clinical and experimental studies
Abstract : Background: Dual antiplatelet therapy with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and the adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-receptor antagonist ticagrelor increases the risk of bleeding complications during cardiac surgery. The overall aim of this thesis was to identify and evaluate current and potential methods to reduce and prevent bleeding complications in patients with ongoing antiplatelet therapy. READ MORE

2. Development and Studies of the Processes Involved in Minor Enantiomer Recycling
Abstract : This thesis describes the development and rationalization of processes involved in a new methodology developed in our group, minor enantiomer recycling. The first part of the thesis addresses mechanistic studies of one of the reactions involved in minor enantiomer recycling, dual Lewis acid-Lewis base catalyzed acetylcyanation of aldehydes. 3. New Methods for Chiral Cyanohydrin Synthesis
Abstract : This thesis deals with method development in asymmetric catalysis and specifically syntheses of enantioenriched O-functionalized cyanohydrins. The first part describes the development of a method for the synthesis of O‑alkoxycarbonylated and O-acylated cyanohydrins. READ MORE

4. Strategies for controlling solid biomass conversion in dual fluidized bed gasifiers
Abstract : In the chemical industry, Synthesis Gas (syngas) has been traditionally produced by steam reforming of natural gas and naphtha. Steam gasification of biomass offers an alternative route for the production of syngas from renewable sources. READ MORE

5. Mechanisms of hedgehog signaling activation in cancer development
Abstract : Hedgehog (HH) signaling has an important role in many physiological processes, and deregulation of this pathway can result in a wide range of malignancies. The aim of this thesis is to identify and evaluate the role of various posttranscriptional mechanisms, including alternative splicing, RNA editing and antisense RNAs, associated with different key components of HH signaling.
