6. Experimental investigation of the flow field in an aggressive intermediate turbine duct
Abstract : Intermediate turbine ducts are used for connecting thehigh-pressure turbine to the low-pressure turbine in turbofan engines. In order to meet the demands for more efficient and environmentally friendly jet engines, future intermediate turbine ducts need to have larger radial off-sets without increasing their length. 7. Computational Analysis of Gas Flow and Heat Transport Phenomena in Ducts Relevant for Fuel Cells
Abstract : The thesis concerns modeling, simulation and numerical analysis of heat and mass transport, and fluid flow in ducts of both solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) and proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). The unique fuel cell boundary conditions (thermal, mass) for the flow ducts in fuel cells are identified and applied. READ MORE

8. Simulation of individual cells in flow
Abstract : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows. 10. Experimental and Numerical Multi-port Eduction for Duct Acoustics
Abstract : Sound generation and propagation in circular ducts for frequencies beyond the cut-on frequencies of several higher order acoustic modes is investigated. To achieve this, experimental and numerical set-ups are designed and used to research aeroacoustic interactions between in-duct components and to conceive noise mitigation strategies. READ MORE
