  1. 16. Psoriasin For Better or for Worse in Sickness and in Health : The Role of Psoriasin in Angiogenesis and Differentation of Epithelial Cells

    Author : Jenny Vegfors; Charlotta Enerbäck; Anna-Karin Ekman; Maria Carlström; Ingemar Rundquist; Enikö Pivarcsi Sonkoly; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Psoriasin (S100A7), a member of the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins, is highly expressed in high-grade ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and in the benign hyper-proliferative skin disorder psoriasis. Both breast cancer and psoriasis are diseases which are characterized by hyperproliferation and a disturbed differentiation of the epithelial cells as well as a pronounced angiogenesis. READ MORE

  2. 17. Transcriptional regulation in neuroblastoma cells under normoxic and hypoxic conditions

    Author : Annika Jögi; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer; Cytology; HIF-2; HIF-1; hypoxia; Id; HES-1; bHLH; Neuroblastoma; neuronal differentiation;

    Abstract : The childhood malignancy neuroblastoma develops from early cells of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), and the tumors often produce catecholamines. Neuroblastoma cells retain several characteristics of immature sympathetic cells including the expression of a number of transcription factors normally expressed during embryogenesis. READ MORE

  3. 18. Regulation of Hedgehog signalling during development and carcinogenesis

    Author : Marie Fiaschi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Hedgehog (Hh) signalling is one of the most important signalling networks in the body and, when miss-regulated, has been implicated in many human tumours, particularly that of skin (Basal Cell Carcinoma, BCC) and brain (medulloblastoma). BCC most commonly arises due to mutations in the gene sequence of the Hh receptor protein PATCHED1 (PTCH1). READ MORE

  4. 19. Studies on the oxysterol receptor LXRβ : linking cholesterol metabolism to water transport and cell proliferation

    Author : Chiara Gabbi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Liver X Receptor β (LXRβ) is a nuclear receptor, belonging to the superfamily of ligand-activated transcription factors. With its α isoform (LXRα), LXRβ shares more than 78% homology in its amino acid sequence, a common profile of oxysterol ligands and the heterodimerization partner, Retinoid X Receptor. READ MORE

  5. 20. Sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer : aspects on indications and limitations

    Author : Linda Holmstrand Zetterlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Axillary lymph node status is the most important prognostic factor in breast cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) was introduced in the late 1990s and has replaced axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) as the gold standard axillary nodal staging procedure in early breast cancer due to higher accuracy and less morbidity compared with ALND.
