  1. 1. EnviroMT : A new controlled source/radio magnetotoelluric system

    Author : Mehrdad Bastani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; EnviroMT; RMT; CSTMT; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : In the frame of an EU project, a new electromagnetic prospecting instrument was designed and constructed for environmental and engineering applications. The instrument works in the frequency domain in the band 1-250 kHz, whereby the collected data can be used to study the variation of ground resistivity from the surface to a maximum depth of few hundred meters. 2. 2. Landfills and glass dumpsites as future bank accounts of resources : waste characterization and trace elements extraction

    Author : Yahya Jani; William Hogland; Monica Odlare; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Landfill mining; metals extraction; glass dumpsites; hazardous waste; chemical extraction; reduction-melting; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : Environmental pollution and health threats as well as scarcity of raw materials, water, food and energy are among the main challenges our world are now facing. Simultaneously, landfills and open dumpsites still are the dominant global waste disposal option even with their long term environmental impacts in case of greenhouse gases and contaminated leachates. Abstract : This thesis reports the results of biomarker measurements in three environmental monitoring projects. In the first project, which was part of the Swedish national environmental monitoring, biomarkers were measured annually in female perch (Perca fluviatilis) in two background areas in the Baltic Sea during 1988–2000, resulting in a unique 13-year series of measurements.
