  1. 21. Cosmic dust and heavy neutrinos

    Author : Erik Elfgren; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik; Fysik;

    Abstract : This Doctoral thesis treats two subjects. The first subject is the impact of early dust on the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The dust that is studied comes from the first generation of stars, which were hot and short-lived, ending their lives as giant supernovae. READ MORE

  2. 22. What contributes to human body burdens of halogenated flame retardants? : An experimental approach

    Author : Joo Hui Tay; Cynthia de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Jochen Mueller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; halogenated flame retardants; air; dust; hand wipes; duplicate diet; serum; human exposure; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Flame retardants (FRs) are chemicals added to a broad range of consumer products such as textiles, electrical and electronic equipment, furniture and building material to meet flammability requirements. Most of these chemicals are additives that can continuously leach out from the applied products during usage. READ MORE

  3. 23. Stellar Winds of Cool Giants : Investigating the Mass-Loss Mechanism of AGB Stars

    Author : Sofie Liljegren; Susanne Höfner; Kjell Eriksson; Bernd Freytag; Hans Olofsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; late-type stars; AGB stars; stellar winds; stellar atmospheres; dust; stellar pulsation; hydrodynamics; radiative transfer;

    Abstract : Asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars are luminous cool giants of low to intermediate mass that are strongly pulsating and non-spherical, with heavy mass loss through a stellar wind. The mass loss makes these stars important for galactic chemistry, as the wind enriches the interstellar medium with new elements and dust, and it determines the final fate of these stars. READ MORE

  4. 24. Levels of brominated flame retardants in humans and their environment : occupational and home exposure

    Author : Marie Karlsson; Bert van Bavel; Bo Strandberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDethane; plasma; air; dust; Northern fulmar; egg; household; occupational exposure; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Plasma from workers at an electronic dismantling plant were analysed for tri- to heptaBDEs (brominated diphenyl ethers), during 18 months. The different exposed groups showed concentrations ranging from 0.06to 2.8 ng g-1 (l. READ MORE

  5. 25. What contributes to human body burdens of phthalate esters? : An experimental approach

    Author : Georgios Giovanoulis; Cynthia A. de Wit; Jörgen Magnér; Brice Appenzeller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phthalates; Alternative plasticizers; DINCH; In vivo screening; Urine; Nails; Air; Dust; Hand wipes; Duplicate diet; Predictors of exposure; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Phthalate esters (PEs) and alternative plasticizers used as additives in numerous consumer products are continuously released into the environment leading to subsequent human exposure. The ubiquitous presence and potential adverse health effects (e.g. READ MORE
