  1. 6. Genetic variation and sexual reproduction in a moss with dwarf males, Homalothecium lutescens

    Author : Frida Rosengren; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bryophytes; mosses; dwarf males; sexual reproduction; genetic variation; genetic structure; inbreeding; isozymes; allozymes; SNP; sporophytes; spore; fertilization; fertility;

    Abstract : Dwarf males occur in many unrelated groups of organisms. Among land plants they are unique to mosses. Moss dwarf males originate from male spores that land and germinate on the female where their final size is restricted to a few mm. Fertilization in mosses occur over short distances with swimming spermatozoids. READ MORE

  2. 7. Dark Matter searches targeting Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies with the Fermi Large Area Telescope

    Author : Maja Garde Lindholm; Jan Conrad; Alexander L. Read; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dark matter; Fermi-LAT; dwarf spheroidal galaxies; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In this thesis I present our recent work on gamma-ray searches for dark matter with the Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT). We have targeted dwarf spheroidal galaxies since they are very dark matter dominated systems, and we have developed a novel joint likelihood method to combine the observations of a set of targets. 3. 8. Prior-less derivation of the astrophysical factor of Dwarf Spheroidal galaxies

    Author : andrea chiappo; jan dr. conrad; garrelt mellema; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dwarf galaxies; dark matter; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies (dSphs) of the Milky Way are considered ideal targets for particle Dark Matter (DM) identification. Indirect detection strategies entail examining dSphs in search for signals of annihilating or decaying DM, in the form of excess electrons or gamma- and X-ray photons above the astrophysical background. 4. 9. A study of the Hercules dwarf spheroidal galaxy

    Author : Daniel Adén; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Parts of large spiral galaxies, such as the Milky Way and Andromeda, are believed to have formed from the accretion of several smaller galaxies. Remnants of this chaotic merging era, such as dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies, are visible in the outskirts of large galaxies. READ MORE

  5. 10. A study of possible chemical inhomogeneities of dwarf irregular galaxies and the influence on the Z-L relationship

    Author : Ana Maria Hidalgo-Gámez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; dwarf irregular galaxies; chemical abundances; metallicity-luminosity relationship; individual galaxies: NGC 6822; IC 4662; IC 10; ESO 245-G05; NGC 1569; IC 5152; DDO 53 and DDO 190; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Abstract : A study on the chemical abundances of dwarf irregular galaxies (dI's) is presented in this work. This type of galaxies have typically low metallicity. First of all, a definition of dI is proposed, in order to obtain a homogeneous group of targets. READ MORE
