  1. 1. Redesign of Alpha Class Glutathione Transferases to Study Their Catalytic Properties

    Author : Lisa O Nilsson; Ralf Morgenstern; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; glutathione transferase; heterologous expression; heterodimer; hydroxyalkenal; protein redesign; sequential design; dimer-interface interactions; enzyme kinetics; glutathione; dynamic C-terminus; viscosity dependence; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : A number of active site mutants of human Alpha class glutathione transferase A1-1 (hGST A1-1) were made and characterized to determine the structural determinants for alkenal activity. The choice of mutations was based on primary structure alignments of hGST A1-1 and the Alpha class enzyme with the highest alkenal activity, hGST A4-4, from three different species and crystal structure comparisons between the human enzymes. 2. 2. Computational Studies of UV-B Induced Signalling Pathways in Plants

    Author : Min Wu; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computational Chemistry;

    Abstract : Abstract This thesis presents theoretical studies of UV-B induced signaling pathways in plants using molecular dynamic methods combined with (TD)-DFT calculations. Ultraviolet B (UV-B) radiation is a component of sunlight covering wavelengths 280-300nm. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on the coiled-coil protein TlpA in salmonella : a thermosensing transcription autoregulator

    Author : Reini Hurme; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : coiled-coilgene regulationrepressorthermoregulationSalmonella;

    Abstract : The coiled-coil motif is composed of amino acid heptad repeats with hydrophobic or apolar residues at conserved positions. Such repeats are responsible for the apolar stripe that is buried inside the coiled-coil structure formed upon coiling of two (or more) alpha-helical chains about each other. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mucus associated proteins and their functional role in the distal intestine

    Author : Joakim H. Bergström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestine; mucus; bacteria; MUC2; AGR2; FCGBP; ZG16;

    Abstract : The mammalian intestine, especially the large intestine, harbors complex societies of beneficial bacteria coexisting with the host. This is a mutualistic relationship, where the host provides nutrients and a favorable environment while the bacteria in return ferment indigestible polysaccharides to short chain fatty acids. 5. 5. Alpha-class glutathione transferases as steroid isomerases and scaffolds for protein redesign

    Author : Pär L. Pettersson; Roberta F. Colman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The present work focuses on the glutathione transferase (GST) Alpha-class enzymes, their characteristics as steroid isomerases and structural plasticity as malleable scaffolds for protein design. The GSTs are a family of detoxication enzymes that appears to have a wider variety of additional functions. READ MORE
