  1. 1. NMR Diffusometry and Dynamic NMR Microscopy Studies of Colloidal Systems

    Author : Helena Wassenius; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusion behaviour; dynamic NMR microscopy; NMR diffusometry; core-shell latex particles; NMR velocimetry; rheology; colloidal systems;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the NMR diffusometry and dynamic NMR microscopy methods were shown to be useful techniques with a great potential for the study of colloidal systems. In Paper I-II, NMR diffusometry was used to study the behaviour of surfactant and polymer molecules that are normally important components in colloidal dispersions and emulsions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Drugs and polymers in dissolving solid dispersions : NMR imaging and spectroscopy

    Author : Carina Dahlberg; István Furó; Anna Millqvist-Fureby; Michael Schuleit; Jadwiga Tritt-Goc; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Abstract : The number of poorly water-soluble drug substances in the pharmaceutical pipeline is increasing, and thereby also the need to design effective drug delivery systems providing high bioavailability. One favourable formulation approach is preparation of solid dispersions, where dispersing a poorly water-soluble drug in a water-soluble polymer matrix improves the dissolution behaviour and the bioavailability of the drug. 3. 3. Structural Studies of Large dsDNA Viruses using Single Particle Methods

    Author : Hemanth Kumar Narayana Reddy; Martin Svenda; Sarah Butcher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PR772; phage; PRD1; Bacteriophage; coliphage; Melbournevirus; Cedratvirus; lurbo; Pithovirus; CryoEM; Single particle imaging; Coherent; Diffractive; Imaging; Soft X-ray; Microscopy; Microscope; GDVN; High resolution; XFEL; aerosol; Injection; electrospray; gas dynamic virtual nozzle; CDI; CXI; FEL; Chemistry with specialization in Biophysics; Kemi med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Abstract : Structural studies of large biological assemblies pose a unique problem due to their size, complexity and heterogeneity. Conventional methods like x-ray crystallography, NMR, etc. are limited in their ability to address these issues. To overcome some of these limitations, single particle methods were used. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structural Changes in Nonionic Surfactant Systems

    Author : Sanja Bulut; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Vesicles; Nonionic Surfactant; Wormlike Micelles; Lamellar Phase; NMR; MRI; SLS; DLS; cryo-fracture-TEM; centrifugation; cryo-TEM;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have studied structural changes of a nonionic surfactant self-assembly, as governed by changes in temperature and concentration. The techniques used in experimental investigations were dynamic and static light scattering, nuclear magnetic resonance and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (using a novel specimen preparation protocol). 5. 5. Towards High-Throughput Phenotypic and Systemic Profiling of in vitro Growing Cell Populations using Label-Free Microscopy and Spectroscopy : Applications in Cancer Pharmacology

    Author : Obaid Aftab; Mats Gustafsson; Neil Carragher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : label free vesicle detector; high-throughput; phase contrast microscopy; Library of Pharmacologically Active Compounds; High Content Screening; fluorometric microculture cytotoxicity assay; nuclear magnetic resonance; mass spectrometry;

    Abstract : Modern techniques like automated microscopy and spectroscopy now make it possible to study quantitatively, across multiple phenotypic and molecular parameters, how cell populations are affected by different treatments and/or environmental disturbances. As the technology development at the instrument level often is ahead of the data analytical tools and the scientific questions, there is a large and growing need for computational algorithms enabling desired data analysis.
