  1. 1. From Air to Aria. Relevance of Respiratory Behaviour to Voice Function in Classical Western Vocal Art

    Author : Monica Thomasson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Abdominal wall; breathing; consistency; inhalation; lung volume; respiratory behaviour; phonation; rib cage; singers; singing; subglottal pressure; tracheal pull; vertical laryngeal position; voice source.;

    Abstract : While previous studies of opera singers’respiratorybehaviour have focused on kinematic or dynamic aspects mainly,this thesis attempts to adopt a broader perspective. Not onlylung volumes, rib cage and abdominal wall kinematics areconsidered, but also the effects of lung volumes and respiratorybehaviour on phonation characteristics. READ MORE

  2. 2. Breathing Life into a Standard : The configuration of resuscitation in practices of informing

    Author : Karolina Lindh; Jutta Haider; Andrew M. Cox; digitala kulturer samt förlags- och bokmarknadskunskap Avdelningen för ABM; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Standards; practice theory; ethnography; information studies; CPR; cardiac arrest; governmentality; library and information science; information practices; Library and Information Science; Biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap; Standards; practice theory; ethnography; information studies; CPR; cardiac arrest; governmentality; library and information science; information practices;

    Abstract : The study inquires into how a specific piece of standardised information, namely the standard for bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), is configured in the practices of lifesaving and bystander CPR-training. Standardisation is commonly thought of as leading to uniformity and order, while practices are dynamic. READ MORE

  3. 3. 3D Verification of Dynamic and Breathing Adapted Radiotherapy using Polymer Gel Dosimetry

    Author : Sofie Ceberg; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiotherapy; 3D verification; polymer gel;

    Abstract : Polymer gel dosimetry has been used since the 1990s, and several studies have shown that this detector system can be used for verification of static absorbed dose distributions in three dimensions (3D). Its unique properties, such as high resolution, normal tissue equivalence and independency of energy, field size and direction of the incident radiation, should also be advantageous for dosimetric verification of radiotherapy using today’s and tomorrow’s dynamic delivery techniques. 4. 4. Fast Dynamic Processes in Solution Studied by NMR Spectroscopy

    Author : Mária Šoltésová; Jozef Kowalewski; Jan Lang; Gyula Batta; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear magnetic resonance; Dynamics; Ethanol; Cryptophanes; Saccharides; Nukleární magnetická rezonance; dynamika; ethanol; kryptofan; sacharidy; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is capable to deliver a detailed information about the dynamics on molecular level in a wide range of time scales, especially if accompanied by suitably chosen theoretical tools. In this work, we employed a set of high-resolution NMR techniques to investigate dynamics processes in several weakly interacting molecular systems in solution. READ MORE

  5. 5. On some Fatigue Problems Related to Steel Bridges

    Author : Roberto Crocetti; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; modular bridge expansion joints; full-scale testing; web breathing; postbuckling behaviour; fatigue; riveted connections;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns three specific fatigue topics related to steel members in bridges, namely: (1) Modular Bridge Expansion Joints (MBEJs). Several premature fatigue failures of MBEJs have occurred in Europe and USA during the past decades. READ MORE
