  1. 11. On processing of thermoplastic starch

    Author : Mats Thunwall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; amylose; starch; extrusion; thermoplastic starch;

    Abstract : Starch is a biodegradable material produced in many different crop plants. Since it is biodegradable, inexpensive, generally has good barrier properties and comes from a renewable source it would be an ideal material to use in e.g. packaging applications. READ MORE

  2. 12. Fatty acid methyl esters as reactive diluents in solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coatings

    Author : Katarina Johansson; Mats Johansson; Mats Jonsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fatty acids; Reactive diluents; Coatings; Thermal curing; Transesterification; Film properties; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : This work describes how a fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) derived from a vegetable oil can be introduced as reactive diluent in a solvent-borne thermally cured coil-coating system. The evaluated reactive diluent, rape seed methyl ester (RME), has been evaluated both in a fully formulated clear coat system and via model studies. READ MORE

  3. 13. Interaction and adhesion at the interface between wood and paint, glue, lacquer measured with DMTA and SEM

    Author : Anna Backman; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wood Physics; Träfysik;

    Abstract : The aim of the present thesis was to study the interface between wood (Pinus sylvestis) and synthetic polymers such as glue, lacquer and paint. The weakest part of these interfaces is always the bond. The long-term properties of bonds between wood and an adherend are those which are interesting. READ MORE

  4. 14. On investigation of stripping propensity of bituminous mixtures

    Author : Umaru Bagampadde; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : In this study, an experimental programme was designed toestablish a relationship between bituminous mixture constituentmaterial properties and their propensity to moisture induceddamage in form of stripping. Six bitumen types (3 from Ugandaand 3 from Sweden) with presumably varying characteristics wereevaluated basing on rheology and chemistry. READ MORE

  5. 15. Xyloglucan-based polymers and nanocomposites – modification, properties and barrier film applications

    Author : Joby Kochumalayil Jose; Lars Berglund; José M. Kenny; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; xyloglucan; packaging; oxygen barrier; nanocomposites;

    Abstract : Biopolymers from renewable resources are of interest for packaging applications as an alternative to conventional petroleum-based polymers. One of the major application areas for biopolymers is food packaging, where a candidate polymer should meet critical requirements such as mechanical and oxygen barrier performance, also in humid conditions.
