1. Polymer and Protein Physics : Simulations of Interactions and Dynamics
Abstract : Proteins can, without any exaggeration, be called the "building blocks of life". Their physical properties depend not only on the chemical structure but also on their geometric shape. In this thesis, I investigate protein geometry using several different methods. We start with a coarse-graining model to study the general behavior of polymers. READ MORE

2. Brownian Dynamics Simulations of Macromolecules : Algorithm Development and Polymers under Confinement
Abstract : In this thesis I have used computer simulations to study the structure and dynamics of grafted polymers during confinement. These systems are of importance for understanding e.g. colloidal stability and surface coatings. READ MORE

3. Electron-Lattice Dynamics in pi-Conjugated Systems
Abstract : In this thesis we explore in particular the dynamics of a special type of quasi-particle in pi-conjugated materials termed polaron, the origin of which is intimately related to the strong interactions between the electronic and the vibrational degrees of freedom within these systems. In order to conduct such studies with the particular focus of each appended paper, we simultaneously solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and the lattice equation of motion with a three-dimensional extension of the famous Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model Hamiltonian. 4. Properties of stabilizers in colloidal dispersions
Abstract : Surfactants and polymers are frequently used as stabilizers in colloidal dispersions. Depending on their solubility and the interactions in their local environment, their tendency to remain adsorbed on a surface will differ. READ MORE

5. Structure and dynamics of complex materials in the water-poor regime
Abstract : In the solid state, molecules are normally ordered in a specific structure. With time, and as a result of influence from the surroundings, solid materials can change their molecular and/or crystal structure and, as a consequence, obtain completely different properties. Water is particularly important in this respect. READ MORE
