    Abstract : Fast synaptic transmission occurs at specialized junctions between neurons referred to as chemical synapses. Action potentials induce an influx of calcium ions into presynaptic terminals, which contain neurotransmitter-filled synaptic vesicles (SVs), triggering fusion of the vesicles with the plasma membrane and resulting in the release of neurotransmitters.
