  1. 11. Risk factors for cardiovascular events and incident hospital-treated diabetes in the population

    Author : Payam Khalili; Peter Nilsson; Johan Jendle; Annika Rosengren; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adiponectin; blood pressure; cardiovascular risk; diabetes; inflammation; pulse pressure; sialic acid; smoking; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. Well-established risk factors for CVD include increasing age, male sex, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smoking, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and low socio-economic status. Traditional risk factors do, however, not fully explain cardiovascular risk in general. READ MORE

  2. 12. Intermittent Claudication : Prevalence and metabolic risk factors

    Author : Jørgen Mølgaard; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The prevalence of intermittent claudication (IC) in middle-aged men (45-69 years old) and metabolic risk factors for this disease was studied in a Swedish community. All 15 253 middle-aged male residents in Linköping community, were screened for symptoms of IC using a postal questionnaire, which included detailed questions about smoking habits and presence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus. 3. 13. Genetic and Environmental Factors in Cardiometabolic Risk

    Author : Yan Chen; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Abstract: Cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus are closely linked by sharing common risk factors, such as obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidaemia. These intermediate risk factors are affected by the joint effects of environment and genetics. READ MORE

  4. 14. Dietary Fatty Acids and Cardiometabolic Risk : Influence on Lipoproteins, Insulin Resistance and Liver Fat

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate how dietary fatty acids affect the risk for cardiometabolic disease, i.e. cardiovascular disease (CVD), type 2 diabetes and obesity. READ MORE

  5. 15. Vascular endothelial growth factor B-role in metabolism, lipotoxicity and disease

    Author : Annika Mehlem; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor B (VEGF-B) was previously shown to control lipid uptake from the bloodstream via the endothelium into tissue cells, and when ablating Vegfb, intra-tissue lipid accumulation was reduced. However, very little is known regarding the metabolic role of VEGF-B in physiologic, or pathophysiologic conditions. READ MORE
