  1. 6. Role of Proneurotensin in Cardiometabolic Diseases

    Author : Ayesha Fawad; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine and Health Sciences; Cardiometabolic disease; Obesity : complications; Diabetes; type 2; Proneurotensin; Dyslipidemia;

    Abstract : The burden of cardiometabolic diseases is increasing worldwide. Early detection of high-risk individuals is essential for appropriate diagnosis, better treatment outcomes, quality of life and lower health related costs. READ MORE

  2. 7. Cardiovascular Risk Genes in Prevention and Treatment Response

    Author : Viktor Hamrefors; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; blood pressure treatment; hypertension; statins; dyslipidemia; cardiovascular prevention; cardiovascular genetics; stroke; coronary artery disease; chromosome 9p21; pharmacogenetics; pharmacogenomics;

    Abstract : GENERAL AIM: To investigate how common single-nucleotide-polymorphisms (SNPs) that associate with cardiovascular disease (CVD) could be used in prevention and treatment of CVD. SUBJECTS: Subjects from the population-based Malmö-Diet-and-Cancer-(MDC)-Study (n=30447) and hypertensives from the Nordic-Diltiazem-(NORDIL)-Study (n=10881). READ MORE

  3. 8. Nutritional status, body composition and diet in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Elkan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Rheumatoid arthritis; rheumatoid cachexia; body composition; fat-free mass; fat-free mass index; nutritional questionnaires; body mass index; dyslipidemia; oxLDL; anti-phosphorylcholine;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease with higher mortality rate than in the general population, which is largely attributed to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Another consequence of the inflammatory process is change in body composition with decreased muscle mass and increased fat mass. READ MORE

  4. 9. Assembly and Secretion of Atherogenic Lipoproteins

    Author : Caroline Beck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : very low-density lipoprotein; ; apolipoprotein B100; ; B-cell receptor associated; microsomal triglyceride transfer protein; ; secretion; assembly;

    Abstract : The classical dyslipidemia seen in patients with type 2 diabetes is characterized by elevated serum triglycerides (TG), low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and the appearance of small, dense low-density lipoproteins (LDL). It is now recognized that the different components of diabetic dyslipidemia are not isolated abnormalities but are closely linked to each other metabolically, and are initiated by the hepatic overproduction of large triglyceride-rich very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL1). 5. 10. Metabolic Disturbances in Relation to Serum Calcium and Primary Hyperparathyroidism

    Author : Emil Hagström; Per Hellman; Ewa Lundgren; Jonas Rastad; Svante Jansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Surgery; Primary hyperparathyroidism; Parathyroidectomy; Insulin sensitivity; Lipoproteins; Glucose metabolism disorders; Bone density; Calcium; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT), characterized by elevated serum levels of calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH), is associated with a number of metabolic derangements causing secondary manifestations. These include osteoporosis and increased risk of fractures, but also risk factors for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. READ MORE
